What's the deal with Syria?

I understand that the next possible target for Bush is Syria. I do not know anything about the country and would like to get informed about it (preferably before CNN gives me the americanized/sporting event version) What is it’s form of government? Economy (yet another oil producing nation?), human rights, population etc. Any good websites out there on it?
