I always wanted to know if there’s some sort of scientific background to the “pee-pee dance”. Or at least, in its adult form, either moving about, pacing, or jumping up and down to “hold it in” a bit longer.
I must admit, it works for me when I awaken in the morning and the bathroom is occupied. Is it psychological? Or is it more physical? Does pacing relieve pressure on the bladder?
Could also be the pelvic movement interferes with key muscles that must relax to allow urination to occur.
Try doing the pee-pee dance in the shower next time the conditions are right and see if it’s harder to go. Or do it fully clothed on the subway during rush hour, if you want… who am I to judge?
My guess would be that our binary friend above is right - interference with the relaxation required to let go and play fireman. You can try a home-experiment: next time you have to go, try and see which muscles contract and react when you try to “hold it in”. Then, the time after, try the “gotta pee dance” and see if the same muscles are being activated…
In this house, we call it the “Payton Manning Gotta-Go Dance”.
