What's the issue of Swamp Thing where Lex Luthor designs a weapon to kill Swampy?

Can’t find it. This is the issue where the criminals pay him to design a weapon ti kill Swamp Thing and he knocks it out in about 10 minutes.

I believe that it was either near the end of Alan Moore’s run (#??-#64) or sometime during Rick Veitch’s run (#65-#87).

Luthor’s weapon cut Swampy off from the Earth, which started him on a big journey through space and time, which culminated in the issue which caused Veitch to quit. (See the wiki entries on Veitch and Swamp Thing for details.)

It was definitely in Moore’s run. The g-men hit Swampy with the Luthor engineered weapon just as Swamp Thing is ready to leave Gotham City, his war being successful and Abby set free. Batman is present at the funeral as is Comissioner Gordon.

Issue number 56 (My Blue Heaven) has Swampy already in space, so it’s either 53 (Garden of Earthly Delights), 54 or 55. I’m pretty sure it’s 53 but not positive.

Rick Veitch did write an issue of Swamp Thing’s space saga (I remember it featured Darseid and Metron) but he only took the helm later. Moore wrote the space saga, Veitc later did a time-travel one. IIRC he quit because DC got cold feet and canceled a previously approved issue in which Swampy would have met Jesus.

“My Blue Heaven” was the first place Swampy went to. I seem to recall Batman and Gordon showing up at Swampy’s funeral, then the last page of the issue showing Swampy arriving on the blue planet. (“Next month: My Blue Heaven”)

So the funeral was in #55. Then the weapon being used would be in #54 or #55, and the weapon being commissioned would be in #53 or #54.
