What's the most annoying thing someone can do on a message board?

You were lucky SmileyDeath you got a lot of those posts in in my “Post count meaningless? bollocks” thread.

I had no idea people would use it to pad their post-count.

Ha.

Let the kiddies fight. We smug Linux users know what the best OS is.

I’m guessing the semicolon is tears. Thus the smiley is a weepy.

A couple of other comments:

  1. There’s two half-decent excuses for signing off with a shortened form of one’s board name. First, if the post is long, the reader would have to backscroll to see the poster’s name at the left. Second, in my case or that of SuaSponte, the poster would rather be called Nott than Ask (or Sua instead of Sponte.) I don’t know Sua Sponte, by the way; I just used the example.

  2. I forgot the other comment. Never mind. And, what the heck…

  3. OpalCat, bless her heart!

I think it adds a personal touch. I kind of like it.

Plus it can clear things up a bit if the user has changed names.

Board layout-fucking posts. Oh how I loathe horizontal scroll barrs.

People who think it’s funny to do the exact thing the someone was complaining about and then say “Sorry, I couldn’t help myself” or “It had to be done”. Example:

Poster 1: I hate it when people use three or four smilies in a row.

Poster 2:     [sub]Sorry, someone had to do it[/sub]

NO. NO THEY DIDN’T.

I like people who sign their posts, because I tend to only see what’s right in front of me, and block out stuff to the left and right. (A huge problem in my driving, btw.) When people sign their posts, I actually see who it is from. When they don’t, I simply don’t notice who wrote it.

Well, you know, trying to crash/hack a message board is probably more annoying than at least a handful of these things…

The better side of it is that we now have all this pretty software to use.

Example: I thought the thread title said, “What’s the most annoying thing you can do on a massage board?”

And I was like, OMG! Anyways, I just wanted to say that. Carry on! LOL

(Those posts are pretty damn annoying)

That’s my biggest peeve, definitely. That and screwing up the coding and omitting the name of one the quoted posters.

Let’s not forget ‘bumping’ up a thread when everyone else is ready for it to die, in hopes that someone else will then post so you won’t be the ‘thread-killer’.

I hate the “I can’t believe no one has mentioned…” posters. Maybe because it SUCKS. In any case, GO AHEAD AND MENTION IT. The world didn’t stop spinning, in case you didn’t notice.

The ones who use A B C D etc in listing their reasons in support of a topic. A B C D is for multiple choice, dildo. Use bullets, numbers, smileys, ANYTHING but A B C D.

Hi everyone, I have only been a member of this message board for two days now. I have been looking for a good message board for a very long time, but all of those things you mentioned as annoying drove me away from other boards. There doesn’t seem to be very many annoying people on this board, if any. I’m glad I found this place and I hope I’m not annoying any of you with this message :stuck_out_tongue:

I needed to come back to my thread after a few days on another videogame website to add 2 more things to my thread.

  1. When people don’t look past the first page of posts to see if their question has been answered already. I am over at this other forum which is mostly teens I guess and I am telling you, on the first 2 pages of the forum there were 4, count’m FOUR threads asking how good the Xbox dvd player REALLY was. God damn that pisses me off.

  2. People who start a brand new thread to ask a question that could have been answered in there other thread. Example, A starts thread about “How good is Xbox DVD player?” gets about 10 replies then starts another thread to ask “Is there a DVD compatibility list for Xbox DVD player?” instead of asking the question in his other DVD thread. Then both these threads are in the top 10 threads on the front page!!

ARGH!!! I wanna choke these kids!

Oh, just stick around! You’ll be posting a Pit Rant™ about some poster within a few weeks.

But you’re right - it’s not as bad here as on most other boards.

Most of the things that irritate the crap out of me have already been mentioned, but I just wanted to reiterate something. The whole “So-and-so is the best ever. End of discussion.” is the absolute worst. Especially when it’s in a thread in IMHO, because it’s a forum dedicated to opinions. I can’t see why people get mad about other people’s opinions. Drives me nuts.

And I also hate it when you see a thread by a first time or just newbie poster, and they say something idiotic, and 20 people rush in to post “DNFTT”. Wouldn’t it be nicer at first to point out that their post might be a little off-kilter? Besides, if it is a troll, aren’t you supposed to report it to a mod and then disregard the post? Why raise such a ruckus? I do have to say that I have seen many posters come into a thread like this and say “So-and-So, you may not be familiar with this forum/our rules/etc…” and I think it’s a much better way to deal with the situation.
