I saw this Tesla Model S convertible yesterday while getting on to route 95 outside of Boston.
A McLaren…
…on the side of the interstate…
…with another car behind it; that car had lots of red & blue LEDs flashing.
Also saw a topless 60’s Vette, literally driven by a little old lady & a Porsche 356 getting gas.
I had forgotten about this thread, but I want to share my story from two weeks ago.
I had gone up to Wisconsin for the weekend, to visit my parents; while driving back to Chicago, on I-43, north of Milwaukee, I was passing a truck towing a trailer; on the trailer there was an older red-and-white car; stylistically, the car clearly looked like it was from the 1950s or 1960s.
It was raining pretty heavily, so I didn’t initially have a clear view of the car on the trailer – as I got closer, I realized there were two propellers under the car’s rear bumper. Propellers???
It was an Amphicar. I’d never seen one “in the wild” before.
I came to report seeing a couple of them. Sweet! I will have to take one for a test drive.
I forgot to post it yesterday – last night on the way home I saw a Pontiac 6000 station wagon. An old Pontiac wagon might not be the most exciting car (although Pontiac’s slogan back then was “We build excitement.”), but it’s one of those cars that used to be extremely common but now you hardly ever see anymore. It was in pretty good shape for its age, and had Nevada plates which would explain the lack of rust.
I spotted an Ellison sports car. First one I’ve ever seen. Candy apple red. Long long wheel base. Beautiful body. Very reminiscent of the Jaguar X series from the fifties/sixties/seventies?
I can’t find any information on the web regarding this car. If you know anything about this car I would like to hear about it.
I saw what I’m pretty sure was a mid-1950s Chrysler in a neighbor’s driveway. It could possibly have been a Dodge, but from what I could see as a drove by it looked like the badge on the rear fender started with ‘C’, so I’m thinking Chrysler.
I saw a gold AMC AMX while out driving today, similar to the one in this picture (so, probably around a 1968 or 1969). It was in excellent shape, and clearly very well taken-care-of. Unlike some of its muscle-car brethren from that era, like Camaros and Mustangs, it’s a pretty rare car to see, at least around here.
A Volkswagen Beetle with a Porsche Carrera four-Cam engine.
Bit late to the thread. Just before the bottom dropped out of Summer here in Denver, I saw a Bugatti Chiron.
Commuting (Presumably, considering the hour) to work. In downtown Denver. Like the rest of the savages.
I’ve seen a few Veyrons…in car shows and even in public (around Vail)…but I’ve never seen a Chiron in person, much less being used like a car.
My husband and I saw a Thunderbird this morning.
I saw a '57 Chevy sedan in a really remarkable maroon paint scheme; obviously not anything close to original, but very striking. And a well done restoration job.
Today was a 1st generation (1964-67) Pontiac GTO, not a complete restoration job but one that looks like it gets driven pretty hard. It was cruising around Lake Placid on Columbus Day weekend.
It’s Jaguar time in the neighborhood. Parked next to a green XJ on Friday and today saw an XF up on a trailer (and at a place that’s known for doing repos, too ;)).
I really don’t find Jagaurs interesting, interesting. But compared to the SUVs and crap that populate the burbs they’re at least a change of pace.
Unless it’s anI pace. Then it’s both…
I saw two interesting cars on my morning commute today:
First, a beautifully restored 1957 Chevy sedan. It was sky blue and white two tone, which I’m guessing would be period correct if not original for the car, given the popularity of pastels in the 1950s.
Then close to the office I saw a Ford Maverick two-door. It was yellow and it also looked to be in mint condition. I guess people are restoring Mavericks now.
On the way home tonight I saw a Plymouth “Barracuda” station wagon, similar to this one. From what I can glean from Googling Chrysler never actually made a Barracuda wagon, but this is a thing people create by installing Barracuda parts on a Valiant two door wagon. The one I saw wasn’t nearly that nice, but rather faded looking, or perhaps primer gray. A work in progress perhaps, although why would he install the Barracuda badge if he was planning on painting it later? Maybe the owner just likes the rat rod look.
There was a BMW i8 at the gas station this week. I didn’t know they existed until that day. I thought it was a McLaren, but as I pseudo-skulked around to check it out, I saw the roundel on the rear. He followed me out of the gas station for about a half-mile. I soon turned off, and he accelerated (using the ICE) along the straight. I’ll have my eyes peeled in hopes of seeing him in the (extended) neighborhood again.
Side question… are we including motorbikes in this thread? I read a few of the 50+ pages, and I saw some mention of them.
Could this be a Kellison?
A couple today within two minutes of each other, on or near Baker Street in London (near the entrance to the tube).
First, a new muscle car with the Shelby logo, which I think was one of the newer model Ford Shelby Mustangs. Of the pictures on the Wikipedia page it looked most like the 2020 model but presumably those haven’t started to be delivered yet, so I guess it was one of the other 3rd Gen GT350s from the last year or two.
Then almost straight afterwards, a blue Lamborghini Aventador turning down a side road. Again it was one of the newer models with more aggressive styling and a rear wing - possibly an LP750-4 SuperVeloce (it kind of looked like the roadster version with its lid on). It actually looked like the 770-4 SVJ a bit further down the Wikipedia page, which would make it brand new if they were only unveiled last year.
A year or two ago I was seeing loads of Lamborghinis and almost got bored with them, but they were mostly Huracans, and for whatever reason I’ve not seen as many lately. (I still don’t generally mention them when I do, though). But it’s a while since I saw an Aventador, and this was a nice one.
A few days late, but a Ferrari 488 GTB cruising down the highway on Columbus Day.
