Yeah, there was definitely that element, too. To me, the distinguishing feature has always been that long hood, and without that, it just kind of becomes “generic supercar.” It was a distinct and instantly recognizable design before. Now it’s “What is that thing?”
( Chuckles ) That 4th Gen ( 1984-1996 ) I still consider “the later model” Corvettes. ( Born in '62 )
I much prefer the older Vettes.
Was talking to my BIL once. He had I think an '84. He was driving a couple of times a year from PA to TX. He took his truck. I asked him why he didn’t take the Vette.
Then he gave me a ride in it.
Oh. I thought it would be more comfortable than a pick-up. It certainly was not.
and the generic supercar is igually hard on the eye as is the generic SUV …
Today I saw a Toyota HiAce Super Custom parked in a local parking lot. Looks like basically the Japanese take on the luxury conversion van. It was right hand drive, so obviously a JDM import.
I am 99% certain this is the exact van I saw, since it was listed for sale in this area a few years ago, and how many of them could there be around here?
On a different note, Thursday night I saw one of the new Nissan Z cars. I’m pretty sure that was the first one I’ve seen in the wild.
That was my first car, a red '63 powered by a 390.
Another Rivian R1S sighting. People with too much money.
I overtook a 1960 Buick LeSabre on I-94 last weekend. He was sandwiched in between a 1960 Buick station wagon and a 1960 Chevy Impala.
A purple Lamborghini, a Hurrican, I think, but it went by too fast for me to get a good look. But it looked kinda like this.
The new Tesla Cybertruck! I really really did not think they were going to release it with that design. But shows what I know.
I’ll share pics when I can upload them.
how did it appeal to you “in the flesh” (vs. pics)?
Down in a FL supermarket parking lot a new Nissan Ariya EV; first one I’ve seen in the wild. Honestly, nothing about the car stood out to me.
Here are the 5 pics I took of the Cybertruck today.
It looks gawky, awkward, ungainly, and BIG. But it might eventually grow on me.
A few years ago I saw a black Jeep with a vanity plate that read “BAH BAH”. It took me a minute to get it.
(I think I posted that in this thread back then, too).
A few days ago I saw a car that, from the front, had a similar shape as an older Porshe, with the long humps coming off the headlights across the hood. Turns out it was a 75ish Camero.
Not the car, but here’s the front of another 75ish Camero. I wasn’t completely off base thinking it resembled a Porshe.
I don’t remember seeing Cameros like this. Maybe I haven’t looked closely enough or maybe they’re not that common. I wish I learned that little bit of trivia when I was a kid. As it stands, other than the badge, the brake lights are what I use to know if I’m looking at a Firebird or a Camero. And those don’t even look like the Camero brake lights I’d expect.
In other news, we were talking about Corvettes a few days ago in this thread, and I ended up seeing an old Sting Ray later that day.
Nitpick: Camaro.
another try to post a pic of chinese GAC vehicles (couldn’t get the photo to post a couple of days ago)
those seem to all hover around de $15 - $20k range
https://gacmotor.cl/modelos/emkoo/
fwiw - we get tons of chinese cars from all kinds of brands (the Chilean car market is the one with most brands operating on the whole planet) - as it’s a very open economy and little entrance barreers)
Wow, thanks for sharing. Looks like something from a cheap, 80s, s-f book cover.
