What's the most interesting car you saw today?

I spotted this beautiful Mustang.

Restomod? Is that roll bar factory stock. That car looks a little off.

I think it came off a GT500 of the same vintage.

A 3rd generation (1964-68) Ford Galaxie 500 with a 352 V8 for sale. I also saw a 1971 Chevy El Camino SS for sale, it was in much better shape but no photo.

Google Photos

My dad bought a new 1966 Galaxie 500 7-Litre, with the police package. He said it got 8 mpg, and burned a quart of oil per 1,000 miles since it was new until he sold it in 1972. Metallic Navy blue. Oh, how I’d like to have that car today! (Though to be honest, I’d rather have his 1970 Thunderbird with the 429, which I actually drove.)

I thought the Aztek was the ugliest car I’d ever seen. Well, today the Aztek got bumped to #2.

Today, I saw my first Rivian. It was so fugly, it pissed me off. When I googled it and learned more about it, I was both pissed off and insulted.

I told Mr VOW if I were driving at night on an old two lane highway in the middle of nowhere, and a Rivian appeared in the rear view mirror, I’d expect it to levitate while the theme from “Close Encounters” played.

Other than those oval headlights, it’s kind of boring. What did you find so offensive?

@beowulff

The headlights were the worst part. They were fingernails-on-the-blackboard creepy to me. And I wasn’t able to get a closer look at the front end, but it appeared to have no front bumper. It was probably a darker color than the body. I would guess an electric vehicle has no need for a grille.

It just looked WRONG.

~VOW

Yeah, the headlights are ugly. The rest of it is just a pick-up.

Driving home from work this evening I saw a brown 1970s Dodge Dart Swinger. At least I think the badge said “Swinger”. It was parked at a gas station as I was driving past, so I only got a brief glimpse of the badge, but I saw an S and a w in there. The car looked a bit weathered, but solid, which makes me think it might have been an unrestored survivor.

Or an SUV.

Yeah those headlights are ugly. But @VOW have you seen the Tesla Cybertruck yet? That’ll make you barf in your mouth. Be prepared.

It is much discussed here,

Saw this as I was pulling into a parking lot.
Google tells me this is a mid 60’s AC Cobra. Which, I think, is a British variant of the Shelby Mustang, maybe?

Then 5 minutes later, going in the opposite direction, I saw it again.

And caught up to it at a red light:

Also, a (1969, according to the license plate frame) Fairline at the same red light:

Interestingly, I think these two cars have the same engine.

Not quite but they are related via Carroll Shelby; the AC Cobra is the British variant of the Shelby Cobra. They originally came with a 289 as the only stock option but a 427 option was added a couple of years later.

There are also a few thousand Shelby Cobra replicas around and a modern “continuation” version authorized by Carroll himself.

That was my first thought. If you see one out on the road, it’s more likely to be a replica than an original.

It’s still cool to see, though.

There are some left-hand drive AC Cobras in the US; apparently the only obvious difference is the AC doesn’t have such prominent side pipes.

HAHAHAHA - yeah, when I looked up photos of Rivian headlights after seeing one from behind, I could see that.

I didn’t find it especially ugly (the Cybertruck II saw 3 minutes earlier definitely would win against it, in an ugly car contest). From behind, it looked like a very generic SUV.

The only distinctive styling on the Rivian is the headlights, which I think are cute and distinctive. Everything else appears bog standard to my eyes.

Now, that’s something you don’t see every day:

Spotted a pale pink 1950s Cadillac today, complete with white top and massive tailfins.

My mistake; that’s the difference between a 289 and a 427, not between AC & Shelby.
