What's the most interesting car you saw today?

Speaking of Studebakers, I just got back from a walk and found this. My guess is that it’s a 1955-59 E-series Transtar pickup based on the rear window. It’s very similar to the previous 2R/3R, but the window was the only real tell.

In Willow Glen this morning, a 1960 Buick LeSabre surf wagon

No photo, but I spotted a rodded duece coupe with the engine exposed. Not in show condition, but it sounded great.

I’m driving the 356 these days because my son is in town from Rhode Island and I lent him my Outback. So I’m up at my barber’s for my haircut and his neighbor has a Porsche 992 GT3 3.8. I got some pictures, with the 356 in the background.

I spotted something odd on the drive home today, I believe it is a Chevrolet Commodore SL/E 4.1T. It appears to be a South African variant of the Holden Commodore with an American drivetrain. This doesn’t appear to be a later Chevy SS. I’m not sure what year this model would be but I love the triangular vent windows.

n/m damn you discourse

Very interesting! It appears to be a 1975-1979 Chevrolet Comodoro, which is a luxury version of the Chevrolet Opala, a Brazilian mid-size car sold in South America from 1969 to 1992.

Some guy in a dark SUV taking pictures of other cars?

Wow, I missed the spelling of Comodoro, my brain went to Commodore and I never went back to look. Yes, you nailed it.

I was in a dark SUV taking photos from the other side. Good catch on the background guy.

Earlier on that same journey I stumbled across a meeting of the Little Rhody Model A Ford Club. Amazing collection of vehicles, such a range of functionality from a single model.

Also, it’s not often you that type of exhaust setup on, what I assume is, a daily driver. I assume it’s not like that from the factory though.

Yesterday while driving San Francisco to Los Angeles down I-5 through the Central Valley, where it was a hot 107 °F, on the other side of I-5 driving northbound I spotted a Porsche 911 Dakar.

It is a Porsche 992.1. It was my first one ever spotted in the wild. I’ve seen one before, in a dealership, but never before in the wild.

It was painted in the racing livery, so it really stands out and catches the eye. That made it easy for me to spot.

This is a web photo from wiki.

Very cool! I’d love to have one.

Last year I posted this image of a “4WD Tercel”, which triggered at least one member.

A minor dog incident meant that I talked to the owner, and I complemented him on his Tercel 4WD. He said, “that’s nothing, let me open the garage door,” to reveal a pristine restored actual Tercel 4WD. Busy dealing with excited dogs, I didn’t take a picture. So I went to search for a picture of a Tercel 4WD to post as an example.

What I found was a YouTube video of the exact car he had in his garage. The license plate is quite memorable, and TFL is based nearby.

A Delaware State Police car…

…a 198x Plymouth Gran Fury Delaware State Police car!

Not in DE, & not w/ a DE plate but a ‘regular’ (not a classic or antique) plate from where it’s registered. I wonder how its allowed to have the full police package?

Maybe it’s state-specific? I’m not s sure but i don’t think that’s permitted in California.

Even ignoring the paintwork, I would’ve assumed having blue lights anywhere on the exterior of a non-police car is illegal in every state.

That car, however, appears to be used as a display car for Police Car Shows (like a car show for police vehicles).

Around the 16 minute mark:

Nope. I could have a blue light bar on the roof of my car if I wanted to. Volunteer fire & EMS are allowed them here. Red lights (& sirens) are reserved for fire dept apparatus & ambulances, along with senior officers (chief, deputy, etc.) of those depts. Red & blue is reserved for PD only. Other states have differing requirements.
I know they (at least used to) sell “Out of Service” covers for those big ol’ lightbars for situations like when the cop car went to the mechanic. I haven’t seen them for the much thinner, modern LED bars, but then those old paper catalogs are now all online & I have no reason or desire to search for them.

There were a couple of differences so I’m thinking it’s not the exact same vehicle but if some movie needed a couple DSP cars for a chase scene they might both be together.

If it had classic/antique plates, I could see it being allowed, I was just surprised to see that on a car w/ ‘regular’ license plates. I bet there are a large portion of the general public would think it’s still a cop car if they saw it, despite it closing in on 40 years old.

Where is “here”?

It’s over there.
