Not sure I follow, Telemark?
After Studebaker stopped making the Avanti it was made by others for many years. I don’t know that I could tell a Studebaker version from the non-Studebaker version at a glance. Or did you see the actual nameplate?
Oh I wasn’t aware of that. I’ll have to look closer next time, and also learn what to look for. So, I’m not sure if what I saw was a true Studebaker, but it was at a place called Studebakers West. If I’m ever there again I might stop in and say hello to the folks there; maybe they only work on real Studebakers.
Couple weeks ago, I saw a Chinese Rexton minivan, in Ethiopia. I’d seen one once before, in Kyrgyzstan. Also rode in a Lada taxi in Addis Ababa.
I drove by the local elementary school and watched a “falcon wing” door open. Yup, the new Tesla.
Another Maserati 4 door on the way to work this morning. They’re getting common enough that I think I’ll refrain from mentioning them here anymore.
Someone at work has started commuting in a blue 1950s Chevy 3100 pick-up, the kind with painted bumpers (white) and a wooden bed. Bit rusty but looks serviceable.
Around town today I saw a Buick Rendezvous, coming towards me then turning left in front of me. It was so nondescript that I almost didn’t notice it until after I was past it and it had completed its turn. Nondescript and bland, from the front. Maybe there are more out there than I realized, and I’m just missing them.
I’d spotted one last week while on the freeway. Coming up from behind it, it is more noticeable. I think the Pontiac Aztek is uglier than the Rendezvous.
Not a car, but my regular commute takes me past the Las Vegas Convention Center, where they’re currently gearing up for MINExpo. Over the last week or two, I’ve been watching them assemble demo equipment in the parking lot. There’s a lot of it, but the most interesting (to me) are the two excavators that are each bigger than my house.
1963 Studebaker pick up on the Mass Pike. Then a 1949 Chrysler in front of a specialty used car lot.
Two of note: a clean and fast-moving E Type Jaguar, likely a late 1960s vintage, in light yellow (I hope that was a factory color), in San Jose CA; and then!, yes!, the second new 911 Targa in the wild! It was black. After a couple of years of not seeing any in the wild, I’ve now seen two in a span of 2-3 weeks.
The new Buick Cascada.
The taillights are on the trunk lid, so when you open the trunk…at night, when an oncoming car could collide with you…the Cascada has another set of taillights INSIDE the trunk, for safety.
Interesting.I think it depends on the version of the Aztek as to which is uglier, the one with the gray cladding at the bottom, which makes it look like a kid’s toy, or the one that looks slab-sided because they color matched the side panels. The child’s toy one was interesting-ugly so it was better than the Rendezvous, the other was worse IMO.
Interesting to me, a new Subaru BRZ in Hyper Blue and dark grey alloy wheels at the dealer while my airbags were being replaced. I was really tempted to take it for a test drive.
I saw a Fisker today. There’s a rare one.
I just went to a really good car show so I could list cars all night long. My favorite was a63 VW crew cab truck with safari front windows that swing out. All sides of the truck bed folded down for easy access and the back of the cab had a 3rd door for easy access. It was a beautiful sea foam green.
A Porsche 968.
Must be my day for cars in the blue-green spectrum. Driving home yesterday saw an Audii TT in seafoam green. That’s normally a colour I would associate with 55 Chevys…
A blue Zenn electric car in Sunnyvale CA. It had Indiana (I think) plates.
Boring one today, but still interesting.
A new Honda Ridgeline, which I assumed was a Toyota pickup until I got close enough to see the badge. What a boring looking truck.
