Whats the movie the Pixies reference in Debaser?

I did a google search and a search of this site and can’t find it. I am having a bit of an OCD episode and it is driving me crazy that I can’t figure it out. Anyone out there know what the movie is?

Follow up question:
anyone ever seen it? “Slicing up eyeballs”, seems fairly extreme, is it any good?

Un Chien Andalou, by Louis Bunuel and Salvador Dali.

Here’s some info about the movie. I’ve seen it, but I have no idea how to review it in terms of good and bad. Maybe if I saw it again?

The title is actually in the lyrics you know  .

And, for good measure, here is the IMDb page about it.

Not exactly. In the lyrics they say Un Chien Andalousia

You’re first question has been answered, but in response to the follow-up: yes, it is surprisingly extreme, especially for such an old film. Even though I knew it was coming, and had seen the clips of it before, I still cringed and peeked through my fingers both times I watched the film. The Wikipedia page that Marley23 linked to contains a link where you can download the film. It’s less than 20 minutes long; I suggest you view it for yourself and make a decision. Remember that it is an abstract film and purposely non-linear. The images are not united by plot but by repetition of particular elements. Enjoy!

Huh. I did not notice that. Meanwhile, tonight’s Colbert Report contained a joke about the movie and showed a couple of seconds - I knew what was coming and was glad they showed some ants, not the eyeball. That takes the number of Un Chien Andalou jokes I’ve seen on television up to one. Funny that it comes just after this thread.

I just watched that episode and was very glad I had started this thread before it came on. I now have one more obscure reference I can pick up on.

And to those of you who pointed out that the title was in the lyrics…well sure that kind of thing might embarrass a lesser person, but not me! I defend myself by saying thatm, in the context of the song and not knowing that particular lyric was (kinda) the title, how was I supposed to know? There are some fairly crazy lyrics in the song, and Frank Black throws in other languages all the time. I just figured it was one of those and I would get it someday.

Now I get it. :smack:

Thanks all.

Yeah, and if he said “Un Chien Andalousia”… I’m told his Spanish was not very good.

Especially since “un chien” is French.

There’s also a Staff Report about the film.

Yeah, but so is the title of the movie - Un Chien Andalou is a French title, even if Luís Buñuel was Spanish.
