What's the nerdiest thing about you?

I’m not even on the same page- hell, not even in the same book as some of you guys.

I guess my best geek cred things are: I know semaphore, and occasionally write my diary or notes to myself in semaphoring figures, despite having only been on a sailing boat once in my life; I’m a reasonable level LotR geek, and actually beat my Dad at the trivial pursuit game (he quotes Elvish poetry when drunk), though my Tengwar script is kinda crappy; and for some reason, though I have little interest in computers beyond basic useage, most of my friends are programmers.

I once had a complete set of Star Wars bubble gum cards.

At the same time?

Only if you insist on spelling it “mediæval” using the Æ grapheme.

My wife has seen more than 300 so far this year. And I’m a much bigger nerd than she is.

As do I, but then I’ve been engineering sound since I was 15, and all sound engineers secretly love both ABBA and The Carpenters for how awesomely well recorded they both are.

My nerdniness is not as deep in many areas as y’all, however, it is unrivalled in breadth. <deep Breath> I’m restoring a 64 Honda Motorcycle while the 66 Hearse takes a hiatus, while we create the Halloween display that makes us the coolest house in several subdivisions (this year with three animated witches, four projectors, and High Def DSLR video), there are 20 computer-like things in the house, 7 of which are hosted on an ESXi server), I’m ‘in to’ photography, assist as a HODAR (Husband of a Daughter of the American Revolution), I’m Cubmaster for our school’s pack, in which I subtly try to turn the kids to the dark side with demonstrations of Van De Graaf Generators, Jacob’s Ladders, and the like. The annual pinewood derby build day is held at my house because I have all the tools.

I turn metal, solder PCB’s, resuscitate things that are merely broke, not worthless. Pride myself on not just fixing things, but fixing them right. I’ve repaired an $800 car problem with $3 worth of o-rings, burned my own Cals for a late 80’s GM vehicle, restored a Defender Cabinet, have two full Scottish outfits…none of this really scratches what I do for a living, with is very VERY IT related.

While others may be better in the obsessive compulsive edges of geekery, I’ve got absent minded professor down pat, LOVE a good turn of phrase, take great pleasure in public speaking, and have spent a great deal of time working at not getting killed on a Motorcycle. (This surprisingly takes quite a bit of brainpower and helps a guy unhook.)

I HAVE missed something significant. Can’t be helped.

I’m identified as a nerd by the general populace, even ridiculed or viewed as stupid, because of my eyeglasses, so I’ll say my eyewear is the nerdiest thing about me. I do have a D&D collection and so forth, but I don’t talk about them.
