What's the next big epic movie trilogy or series?

Hyperion

Rendezvous with Rama (Things always happen in threes.)

As a Diana Gabaldon fan, I’m waiting patiently for someone to do the Outlander series, but that would only appeal to those red-blooded females who swoon at the sight of a Scottish Highlander in a kilt.

Although, to do it justice, it should really be a 12-hour TV miniseries, a la the golden age of mini-series (Shogun, Roots, etc)

It’s coming, as a trilogy, with Brangelina. See also here.

I would love to see Steven Brust’s Taltos series made into movies. They’re pulp fantasy stuff, but could be fun if they find someone who can pull off the main role. Hell, I think Nathan Fillian could do it if he looked more mousy…

Also I would love to see Garth Nix’s Abhorsen series brought to film.

Spiderman 4 was already announced, regardless of how 3 does in the theatre…

Well, Resident Evil wasn’t bad. Apocolypse, on the other hand…

They still have a final Pirates of the Carribean Movie on the way, which I’m surprised that no one has mentioned.

I’m still waiting for History of the World, parts two and three.

I think I would have to insist on no moustache, though. It’s just a tiny little departure from canon, right? Or at least a -different- moustache. The sort of moustache that I think Vlad is supposed to be sporting brings to mind gay leathermen (whom I find more amusing than arousing), cops, the Village People, and Freddie Mercury.

Seriously: I doubt most theatregoers could handle the more convoluted plotlines of say, Yendi.

I would be fine with the lack of mustache. Which only encourages my vision of Nathan in the role.

As for storylines, I was thinking Jhereg, Dragon and… I dunno, Teckla?

That can’t be real.

Halo will be different if it ever gets made. Micro$oft has basically said, “we don’t need the money, so either make a good movie or don’t make it at all. We don’t care.” Peter Jackson was attached as a producer at one point (which would almost surely mean Weta graphics), but he may or may not be attached currently. I think if it ever happens it will be a HUGE $300 million grossing “event” movie.

If there was justice in the world, it woud be the Firefly movie series.

How about some of Heinlein’s works? You could work a trilogy out of The Moon is a Harsh Mistress, The Rolling Stones, and any one of the other future history stories set in the solar system.

The thought of Hollywood beating TMIAHM into submission makes me cringe.

It’s being developed now. I have reasonably high hopes, because the screenplay is being written by Tim Minear, who wrote scripts for Buffy, Firefly, Wonderfalls, and other great shows. Plus, he’s a Libertarian like Heinlein, and an interview I read with him said that he is absolutely adamant about retaining the essential themes of the book. He’s a huge Heinlein fan.

You couldn’t ask for a better screenwriter for that book. However, there’s still lots of ways a studio could mangle it.

A screenplay is a “rough map” anyway, and the higher the budget, the more involvement the producers will have. And just forget about it if they get someone like Michael Bay or Chris Columbus to direct.

. . . And I didn’t mean to disagree with you, Sam Stone, rather I was agreeing with your last sentence.

This is coming out in a couple of years.

It’s not a series, but if it’s a hit they may go on to other books by Kay, which means we might someday see a Fionavar Tapestry film trilogy, which would make me very very happy.

(I know lots of you don’t like the Tapestry. In fact, I’m pretty sure Kay himself is somewhat embarassed by it. But you have to admit - it’s a damn fun read, and even Hollywood couldn’t make it any cheesier than it already is).

I’m looking forward to Jews In Space.

Hi, you’re my new best friend!

Actually though, much as I love the Clans, I’d start with the Warrior trilogy. I mean, it’s effectively the beginning of the entire Classic Battletech storyline, and following it up with the Kerensky trilogy, a few one-offs based on books covering key events, and closing with Coleman’s Endgame trilogy would make a great series over-all. Of course, that’s just my opinion.

PS. Federated Commonwealth for the win!

One of the nice things about the RoK trilogy is there is so much material from both sides of many aspects of the war. Also feels like a little more grand good guys, bad guys affair with the big twist when Jaime Wolf reveals that the clans are Kerensky’s army returned.

I want to see:

The Black Widow Galaxy splattering the com guards
Kai Allard Liao challenging The Falcon guards to single combat ( "Who here will grant me a warriors death  )
The Elementals bidding multiple stars of armored elementals to hunt for Kai and considering it fair
Tyra Miraborg driving her shilone into the bridge of the Clan Wolf flagship

last but not least Vlad, blown out of his mech, for lack of any other weapon, throwing his helmet at Phelans mech.

The Grey Death Leigon could be its own whole series with the warrior series as well as all of the party around Glengarry.

Now all I need is to win the lottery and they will happen, all star casts, massive CGI battles like LotR, damn I am getting exited just thinking about the possibilities.

OMG, I had completely forgotten about that!
A few years ago there was talk about them writing the scripts but I haven’t heard anything since then.
That would be so cool.
I would love to see the Shrike !

You missed Spaceballs?
