What's the next Unspeakable Outrage?

Anything on this site–

Reparations.

With the election season coming up I bet it’ll be gay marriage related somehow.

Like, any gay marriage laws that are passed will REQUIRE your church to marry any gay couple that asks. That’s just the kind of tortured reasoning you can wring out of a law promoting equality and most righties think it’ll happen anyway.

Gay marriage, and Mexicans stealing our jobs. Those are always crowd pleasers.

Hell, if we had four more years of Bush, Mexico would be deporting us.

I’ve been fearing for a while that someone is going to get shot or bombed. And the reason will be something stupid like it always is, but all hell would break loose.

Either that or Obama’s really a woman.

Free abortions for gay Mexicans.

I agree with this, but it is so very, very stupid. It would be like me saying that I’m in favor of converting USA into a tyranny, because I think I’d make a very good tyrant.

Christians think they should get rid of church&state because they think their religion is right, but then so does every other religion. When prayer is allowed in schools, they’ll look around and see that there are people holding muslim prayer groups, and hindu ones, and people practicing wicca in the art classroom, and then they’ll want to make a law so that only christians have freedom of religion.

Because we were, after all, founded as a christian nation, right?

…Right?

uh huh, but they have to be the right brand of christian. and my god can beat up your god. and death to the infidel. and kill the heretic.

I guess freedom of religion means freedom only for MY religion (because all the others are wrong and offend my god). According to the history books, a lot of people came here to get away from that, only to try and force it on somebody else.

For everything, no doubt. The idea of reparations for any damn thing really gets my motor running.

All joking aside, this is the one that has me quietly spooked when I think about it.

So I try not to think about it, since thinking about it is futile.

I just hope they can catch and stop whoever tries it, before it “goes down”. There’s something about it this time that just feels like more than just some harmless weirdos in tinfoil hats.

It’s only a matter of time. Glenn Beck actually asked his followers not to commit acts of domestic terrorism.

And then he winked.

That in itself is pretty scary, the idea that Beck actually felt there was a need to ASK them not to be stupid. What are we coming to, when he has to actually ASK his listeners to not kill anyone???

No, it’s just that Obama hasn’t waved his magic wand and made the economy all better, and jobs for everyone. (It is getting better, and faster than I thought, but still, people are out of work).

It’s normal for people to be disillusioned when they expected miracles and only got pretty damn good.

We could never make up anything as outrageous as what these wingnuts have and will continue to come up with. I won’t even bother trying.

They will continue with their vicious and infantile attacks and partisan obstruction until those they consider to represent them are back in power, just as they have done through every Democratic Presidency in this generation. (then they will appeal to the common good and basic respect for the office, etc… and label those critisizing THEIR President as “traitors” and “aiding and abetting the enemy” .)

Let’s just hope Obama has the good sense and fortune to not get caught with his pants down and lie about it under oath or to allow the CIA to undermine his directives or get assasinated.

There is nothing he could do “right”, as far as they are concerned. Their interest is not the best interest of the nation but their own ideology and agenda.

What is borderline terrifying to me is that there are still so many who BUY this crap…from Limbaugh’s ramblings to all the shockingly ignorant mass-forwarded emails chronicled and debunked by Snopes to Glenn Beck (who has been caught in outright lies and false reporting of the facts several times recently). CAN so many be so STUPID? Apparently so.

We actually have a MODERATE (only slightly left of center by most objective standards) in office for the first time in a while, and they can’t frickin’ STAND IT!:wink:

So hey, I’m open to anything as the possible “next thing”…there is literally no limit to the wrath of the wingnuts (an upcoming episode of the Star Wars saga:D)

The title says NEXT. Glen Beck has already gone there.

The opinion polls on health care reform or the opinion polls on Obama? I expect the polls on reform to do better once there’s an actual single bill to look at. As for Obama, the Research 2000 polls have shown a net favorability drop among Republicans from -11 near Inauguration Day to -84 as of August 13, a drop from +67 to +39 among independents, and a drop from +89 to +78 among Democrats.

So, in other words, Democrats are still happy with Obama. He’s lost some independent support but I bet it’ll come back if the economy starts getting jobs back. I’d say that support would go up with the passage of reform, but since reform wouldn’t kick in until 2013 we’ll know how the independents feel about Obama well before that. The major loss of Obama’s popularity is among Republicans and, considering their behavior the last few months, I don’t think that’s a problem. The Republicans hate Obama but the country overall hates the Republicans (Republican party 74% unfavorable, 17% favorable; Congressional Republicans 76% unfavorable, 10% favorable; McConnell and Boehner both 66% unfavorable, 16% and 11% favorable respectively.)

The next outrage depends on the next initiative, no?

If Mr Obama tackles anything which promotes Affirmative Action–particularly AA directed at race-based or diversity cohorts, it’s going to get messy. There will be personal attacks demanding his own admission and performance records, general hysteria that the incompetent are about to be given the helm, and protests that competence and hard work are no longer the drivers for success.
