"What's the number for 911?"

My favorite joke on this line of thought was on Third Rock from the Sun.

Harry is systematically testing what happens if he eats random items and feels sick after drinking gasoline. He holds the can upside down and says, “Somebody call 1 1 6!”

From Married… With Children (if I remember right anyway) - something about “calling 411 to get the number for 911.”

I remember it in that movie. I can picture Richard Dreyfus running through the house screaming, “What’s the number for 911?!?”

Actually, the way I remember the scene Richard Dreyfuss was running around screaming “Call 911!” while holding a cellphone in his hand - apparently not thinking he could make the call himself.

Is it an urban legend that emergency personnel are instructed to user the term “nine-one-one” instead of “nine-eleven” because otherwise, people in an emergency will be looking for the “eleven” button?

I think the gag first appeared hieroglyphics in King Tut’s tomb.

Except then it was Ra Osirus Osirus
