What's the temperature at your house these days? (posted July 10, 2022)

We’re about to experience at least a week of perfect summer temps. Low to mid 80’s for a few days and then mid 70s. Nighttime temps cool down to low 50s to low 60s. Blue skies with a few puffy white clouds and a breeze. This is why we put up with the horrendous winters - these fleeting weeks of beautiful weather.

My A/C is set at exactly 22.5C, and I find that just about right, especially for upstairs where it tends to be a bit warmer. If I set it to 23 or 23.5, the temperature on occasion can creep up to 24C and that’s just too damn hot for me.

Anyway, after bragging that it hasn’t been all that hot here in southern Ontario, now it is, and has been for days – high 80s to as much as low 90s. The thing is that because sustained really hot days are unusual in this part of the world (or more accurately, unnatural, but becoming more frequent) they tend to create unstable weather systems – i.e.- sustained heat waves are often followed by strong thunderstorms with strong winds, with the possibility of other severe weather phenomena like hail. We are currently under a severe thunderstorm watch. I was going to do some grocery shopping today but to hell with it.

It’s 4:00 am and it’s about at the low for the day, 28° C with 83% humidity, giving a heat index of 32° C, or 90 F.

To save money we use both AC and fans.

Visiting Montreal at the moment (maybe a trip out to Ontario this week), and it’s similar out here. Bit warm hiking during the day, but it’s actually possible to hike in the middle of the day without legitimate fear of heat stroke. And walking around in the city is fine since it’s not particularly strenuous. It’s totally amazing!

The forecast is significantly cooler for southern Ontario over the next week – typically no more than about 27°C max. Would be a good time to visit. We still have a severe thunderstorm watch at the moment in my area but that should be lifted soon. Will probably be some rain tonight, though (ETA: Or maybe not. Looking out my windows I see blue sky.)

89, but a storm and cold front is passing through and 77 tomorrow.
Ohio here.

Hasn’t even broken 100 today… it’s 99 right now. Practically a cold snap.

Only 99 yesterday, 100 today, predicted to top out at 101-103 all week long.

84 degrees mid-afternoon here in Waikiki. Bright and sunny, so feels a little hot. We’ve had a rather cool summer though, with it still feeling a little chilly at night.

Finally back home (DFW, Texas) after 10 weeks of traveling.

I just finished installing my new weather station. It’s reading 105F, which agrees with the old fashioned dial thermometer on the porch. I sent my kiddo (in Denver) the link to our Wx Underground station as a test, and he texted back “Holy shit… 105. Is that right?”

I think I wanna go back to the mountains.

Gee, San Antonio’s heat wave made the New York Times.

I’m in Charlotte NC. At 5pm as we landed it was 97F. Kinda warm for around here.

82 degrees in Honolulu at 10:30am. Might break 90 today. Still kind of coolish at night.

101 today in Dallas. Supposed to be more of the same all week.

70 and raining before dawn today. It’s supposed to get into the mid 80s. But AccuWeather says it will top 100 later this week. Ugh.

Here in southern SC we’ve got a bit of “cooler” weather. It’s been in the high 90s with humidity on top of it. A few evenings ago it was sweltering at 10:30 pm when I took the dogs out. It was more uncomfortable than it had been when I left work at 6pm.

Currently at 6 am it’s about 74 deg and 83% humidity, today’s high is supposed to be 94 but only 41% humidity.

Tis the season when I wonder why the hell I wanted to move here, and I have to remind myself that Oct through May really is worth July and August. (June and Sept can be lovely, can be suffocating, and generally you at least get evening coolness and some breaks in the heat.)

75F high yesterday here in central Kentucky, adding to the recent cool-down, though overall July was a warm month.

Was a lovely shade of 90F & tropical in the Bahamas this weekend

Same story today at home in SoFL.

Just about ideal.

Here in the Umpqua Valley of Oregon its been in the upper 90’s for most of the last week or 10 days. Our crappy portable AC is wholly insufficient in keeping the inside temp below about 80, which is ~20 degrees hotter than I’m comfortable with. Several wildfires were started over the weekend and so now we have the smoke to deal with – again. The only plus side of that is it does seem to be keeping temps down a bit.

We went over to the coast (about 50 miles as the crow flies) on Saturday and it was sunny, breezy, and in the low-60’s all day. Heavenly.

Here in Chicago, it was a lovely weekend, weather-wise – highs in the low 80s, with low humidity. We were able to shut the air conditioner down for three full days.

But, this week is starting out gross again. The air temperature, at noon, is 84F already, and the “feels like” is 94F, due to the tropical-level dew point (currently at 74F).

It’s supposed to hit the high 80s today and tomorrow, and then the mid-90s on Wednesday, all with soupy humidity. Ugh!
