What's the temperature at your house these days? (posted July 10, 2022)

Right now it’s 84F outside and 81F inside. I usually don’t bother with A/C until the indoor temperature is 85F. I didn’t even put them in the windows until it was 99F last weekend.

It’s going to be fairly nice around here for the next week. Mid 70s - low 80s with thunderstorms today and rain next Saturday. Otherwise mixed sun and clouds. We always have fairly high humidity in the summer. Right now it’s 78%.

remind me not to vacation with you.

Just last night I read an anecdote about this:

There was a particularly cold spell in part of Norway, and a radio station randomly called some resident there to ask him what the temperature was around him today. He said “About 3 or 4 (Celsius)”. Disappointed, the radio guy said, “Really? 3 or 4 below zero?” “No, 3 or 4 above zero.” “Really?? Well, we heard it was about 40 degrees below zero there!”

“Ah, well, that’d be outdoors you’re talking about, then.”

Sounds virtuous. But I bet there are people in Phoenix who don’t bother with A/C until it tops 105F. :stuck_out_tongue:

My laptop says it’s 99F outside.

Heat index here (upper Midwest) is 110 degrees.

Not really, unless it’s really humid I like warm weather so it’s not as I’m suffering for a real or imagined cause.

And I’m in misery for at least 3 months of the year when it’s cold.

Bwahahahaha! Come to Texas, where when it’s hot, it’s almost always humid. When it’s not hot, it’s usually cold.

It could drive a person mad, I tell ya. <twitch>

Yeah, with a dew point of 75, it’s like being in the tropics.

Ya think?

Well, the dewpoint is 71 now and I’m happy so…

Mid 70s right now. However, because we get our utilities free, my wife keeps the thermostat around 72.

It’s been in the low 90’s here in Virginia for the past couple weeks, but with high humidity that makes the air thick and feels very hot. There have often been afternoon thunderstorms that start with big raindrops and turn into a downpour.

I guess the concept of “ideal” varies with expectations and acclimatization! It’s currently 31°C (88°F) here in southern Ontario, which has been the high for three days in a row. This has resulted in a bright red “Heat Warning” banner on the forecast with the following text:

Heat event is expected to continue today. Maximum temperatures are expected to be near thirty. Humidex values are expected to reach near 40.

Relief from humidity and cooler temperatures are expected on Tuesday.

Hot and humid air can also bring deteriorating air quality and can result in the Air Quality Health Index approaching the high risk category. Watch for the effects of heat illness: swelling, rash, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and the worsening of some health conditions. Drink plenty of water even before you feel thirsty and stay in a cool place.

Check on older family, friends and neighbours. Make sure they are cool and drinking water. Never leave people or pets inside a parked vehicle. Outdoor workers should take regularly scheduled breaks in a cool place.

Heat warnings are issued when very high temperature or humidity conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion.

P.S.- Lest you’re tempted to refer to us as “wimpy Canadians”, be aware that we’re out in our shorts and T-shirts in March, just as soon as most of the snow has melted, celebrating the warmth of spring and the imminence of the hockey playoffs! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: :ice_hockey:

Hasn’t even broken 100 here today. Of course, there’s the drought, too. People aren’t wasting water on their lawns, so everything is dead and brown.

A local chicken & burger joint had up on their marquee:

“Our chicken is as crispy as your lawn!”

:slightly_smiling_face:

I have a retired neighbor who has planted probably 60-70 flowering plants, bushes and ornamental trees in my yard over the last several years. He’s done this for three other neighbors and refuses payment for any of it. My water bill was tripled for last month when temps were near 100 almost every day. There was no way he was going to let all that stuff die. Fortunately, we don’t have to deal with drought. I can’t complain, though. I have a free gardener and my yard looks great.

Hehehe, and the people in Texas are still wearing jackets then. 50F is enough for that, right?

Today was supposed to be the last three digit temperature in DFW for about a week. Rain is in the forecast. We’ll see how it works out.

It just rained here in San Antonio for about 20 minutes. A real downpour. It was beautiful. Over now… sigh.

Hehehe, and now: RELEASE THE HUMIDITY!
