What's the Word on Ghostbusters: The Game

Just FTR, the PS3 version of the game is only a timed exclusive in Europe. The 360 and PC versions will be released in October.

I agree with Just Some Guy. The Wii version’s fun, but it’s a bit on the simple and easy side. I’ll be trading it in within a week, I suspect.

I just started playing the Wii version- it appears to be more puzzle-oriented than the PS3/360 version. The Stay-Puft mission, for example, differs from the one shown in the 1Up video for the PS3/360- in the Wii version, you’re going up to the top of a building, and along the way you have to power some generators by throwing a battery into a ghost and then throw the charged battery in the generators (you can then trap the ghost if you so choose). The cartoony forms of the characters are very good caricatures (except Janine).

Crap.

I saw the Wii version in EB for $29.99 yesterday. Went back to buy it today and it’s $49.99 - more than I’m willing to part with just now.

I had the same experience with Mad World, except in that case I actually picked it up at the nice price. :frowning:

Yeah, Janine’s weird. Dunno what they were thinking. I’m not sure they really nailed a good caricature of Ray Stantz/Dan Aykroyd, either, but the caricature works on its own if you don’t think about it as Aykroyd. But Janine’s bizarre looking (though fortunately they also brought Annie Potts in to do the voice.)

I’ve played the game for maybe an hour and 40 minutes and it says I’m 30% done.

I think they were thinking about this. Check her glasses.

Well, I bought the 360 version two days ago, and I’m going to be trading it in tomorrow. Not because I finished it- but because I really didn’t like it.

It’s slow, for one. Taking out one ghost can take up to a minute or so- which wouldn’t be so bad, except you’re constantly getting nailed by offscreen enemies. Since your health is only shown on your backpack, it’s hard to keep track of it- so I tended to die fairly often. The punishment for death is reloading from the last save point- slowly, incredibly slowly- and most of the time, you then have to sit through the same unskippable cutscene again and again. Also, there only seems to be a handful of voiceovers from the rest of your team, so you end up hearing them say the same things, over and over.

Even more annoying is when you get told to follow one member of the team- but they all look alike, so it’s hard to tell who you’re supposed to follow. This only adds to the plodding feel of the game, as you wander around, listening to the dialogue for the umpteenth time. Oh, and the voices aren’t attenuated by distance- so Egon down the block sounds just like he’s standing right next to you, which really aggravates the problem.

The character models are smack-dab in the middle of the uncanny valley, and to make it worse, you get treated to multiple closeups (repeatedly, if you have to reload from a savepoint). It’s also annoying that some of the voiceovers are taken directly from the movies, while others aren’t- it makes the voiceovers from the movie really stand out in a bad way.

Maybe the game just isn’t for me- but I tried for the past two nights to enjoy it, and had no luck at all. It probably doesn’t help that I just finished InFamous, and had a blast doing so- I suspect that GB is paling in comparison. I really wish I’d just rented it first. Maybe I’ll trade it in and get Red Faction, or Prototype.

Thanks for the update. I was tempted to buy it after reading an interview with Ramis, but the trailer made is *seem *dull.
