This is obviously derivitive (derivative?) of the thread about the worst movie ever, but I think that’s a little to easy. Besides, sitting through a horrible movie, after actually paying for admission has a certain value that, I think, warrants a separate thread.
My Picks:
The Thin Red Line: A whole caravan of us went in H.S. (we were speech team geeks). At least we had fun arguing about the worst part of the movie afterwards. (The owl. Always with the 10 second long shots of an owl.) Horrible, horrible, horrible.
Tom Selleck’s magnum opus, Mr. Baseball!
Hoodlum. The best (worst) part was the blatant rip off of a Dick Tracy montage.
The worst film I’ve ever paid to see is ‘The Pest’ with John Leguizamo. http://www.spe.sony.com/movies/thepest/ It was annoying in the opening credits and got worse and worse. I lasted 20 minutes before leaving.
I know a lot of people love this movie (and it spawned several sequels and a series) but I almost walked out on the original “Highlander”. I so wanted to like it, it had Sean Connery, dammit! But it was just BAD. I was in a theatre in (if I remember) Westwood Village in L.A. (UCLA area) and the reast of the audience felt the same way. A lot of people walked out, (I stuck it out to the end, but was tempted.) People around me muttered “This sucks!” Titters were heard during some of the hokey sword fight scenes. It was a brutal audience, I tell ya.
I’ve seen the film since then, it still sucks, but maybe my impression of it has softened a little bit. (After all, it has Sean Connery!)
Oliver Stone’s Nixon. I should have known going in that if Oliver Stone was involved the movie would resemble a 2nd grader’s diorama. After 30 minutes I couldn’ take any more random images and pointless dialogue so I walked out.
Battlefield Earth MST3K material for sure. I lasted until about 10 minutes before the end, then left. It remains the only movie I’ve EVER walked out of.
Highlander is one of my all time favorite movies. But I paid to see Highlander II, and boy what a stinker that was. It was actually on TV last night and I watched it out of sheer fascination at how bad it is, and wondering why on earth Sean Connery did it. Highlander III was only marginally better because they just reshot the first movie over again. (And you know they’re making another one.)
I also paid to see Beastmaster II, because I liked the first one (still do). Kari Wuhrer should not be acting.
The most recent horrible movie I paid to see was Lost in Space.
As someone who actually enjoys watching bad movies, I was hoping to see Battlefield Earth in the theater, but unfortunately it’s not going to be released where I am. Sigh. Just have to wait for the video, I guess.
–Sublight.
Hey, I LOVED “Destiny Turns On the Radio.” Then again I’ve only seen it on video, and generally am in an altered state, soo…
Tark and I paid to see a huge stinker called “Ghost in the Machine” a few years ago. He picked it. I stepped out in the middle for a cigarette and only went back inside because he had the popcorn.
Well I know i will get some disagreement for the female contingent but the worst movie I ever paid to see was
Waiting to Exhale
Went with my girlfriend at the time(now wife) and thought I was going to die before the damn thing would end! They end so many scenes with the fade to black that makes you think it is over then wait 2 seconds and the next scene begins. Not to mention that the stupid thing could have ended at any one of those points based on the worthless excuse for a storyline.
