What's the worst movie you've ever PAID to go see?

Yes Georgio, the great Pavoratti could not even save this
Batman, fell asleep, woke up and walked out

I usually wait until movies have been out for awhile and try to get feedback from friends, but most of the time now, I just rent it on DVD and watch it at home on the large screen.

I cringe to think of all the bad movies I’ve paid to see.

The Pickup Artist-Gawdawful mid-80’s piece of crap celebrating promiscuity in the age of AIDS

Lost In Space-That sucking sound you hear is William Hurt’s
career circling the drain

Wishmaster-Good FX, but boring and predictable plot with really bad lead actress

Congo-The only movie I ever walked out of

Sphere-rehashing the ol’ “it was only a dream” plot

8MM-just vile, vile, vile

Oh. OH. I had completely repressed the memory of those 2 wasted hours… thanks for reminding me. A friend and I go to quite a few movies, and this one was his pick. When we got to the scene with the alien and… ((touching climax!!)) the computer-generated tear rolling down it’s cheek, I was groaning loud enough to make the people behind me “shush” me. What? Like they were missing something? Any more saccherine and we’d all walk out of the theatre with cancer. :stuck_out_tongue: One can’t help but think Tim Robbins insisted on sacrificing his character just to avoid being in that abortion of filmmaking any longer.

My friend apologized, but I realize now that the worst of the bad movies I’ve paid to see have been with him:

  • The Haunting - “See you in hell, grandpa!”
  • Stigmata - The world’s longest music video.
  • Madonna’s Truth or Dare - (although technically I didn’t pay for this. I made him reimburse me.)

and worse even than Mission to Mars?

  • Boxing Helena - oh, pleeeeeease!

The Polish Wedding

Laserblast.

I watched this in its thankfully-short-lived theatrical run in 1979. I can’t believe Leonard Maltin’s Guide to the Movies gave it 2-and-a-half stars.

It was so bad, it actually ended up being the feature piece of an episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000 a few years ago.

P.S. I also paid good money to watch Space Cowboys. Bleah.

One so bad that I remember the name to this day: “The Check is in the Mail” - it was at the dollar theater a week later, and gone a week after that.

Eyes wide shut, thankfully I only paid matinee price for it.

I brought this up the last time we had a “worst movie” thread, but I feel very strongly about this.

The most depressing, disgusting, unentertaining, vile movie I have ever seen…the ironically named Happiness.

I thought Happiness was an excellent film, although I wanted to take a shower after I watched it. I’ll see anything with Philip Seymour-Hoffman.

Oh, yeah? How about *The Gong Show Movie *??

Go on, beat THAT!!

Also, Beavis and Butthead Do America
I forced myself (and my suffering wife) to stay until the end in hopes that the sucking would stop.
It didn’t.

I have to admit that I actually liked Oliver Stone’s JFK and Nixon. (Not that I actually buy into his theories, but I liked the movies).

I will also vote for Star Trek V, which I’ve described to friends as “William Shatner’s ego defecating on screen”.

You mean there’s a  good “erotic” movie? No such thing!

You think Eyes Wide Shut is an “erotic” movie? boggle

Definitely The Faculty. My friend and I, being the only people in the theater, did MST3K schtick throughout the whole movie.

One that I forgot, must have been in denile “Detroit Rock City” Thought it might be cool since it took place during the time I was a teenager. Absolute Garbage

An example of a good “erotic” movie, IMO, is Basic Instinct or Damage. My definition of a good erotic movie is that it’s suspenseful and sexy at the same time.

But when it’s done poorly, well then we have “Showgirls.”

I have been thinking hard about this. I think that it was probably “Up the Creek”. I went to see it because Cheap Trick did the theme song. Bad choice. Very, very bad choice. I mean Cheap Trick is still good, but that movie was SO bad. I try to put things like that out of my memory though so there might be a worse one.

John Waters may be considered a good director (by some), but this felt like watching a home movie. Divine eating fresh dog-sh*t is entertainment?

When ‘Stop, or My Mom Will Shoot’ came out, my hometown newspaper’s reviewer gave it half a star (out of four).

For being in focus. That’s one of the best reviews I’ve ever read.

Oh my God, I completely repressed the memory of Howard the Duck.

Didn’t see the Gong Show Movie, but I paid for Sgt. Pepper’s Lonlyhearts Club Band. The one with Andy Gibb and the Bee-Gees. Hell, I think I saved up my allowance for it.

Beat that!
