Derailed. Free On Demand, Clive Owen, Jennifer Aniston…wow, it was terrible. I kept waiting for the other super-secret plot twist that surely was meant to shock you beyond the obvious one. Nope - it was just the obvious one.
Followed up with a “killer-is-still-alive” scene that actually made me say out loud, possibly for the first time, “wait - he got shot in the head!”
I haven’t actually seen this one, but I came across it while looking for something to watch on Netflix. Here’s Netflix’s description:
I mean, the “married woman discovers she’s a lesbian” genre is already pretty tired… but Jesus, this one’s not even trying for subtlety, is it? Just a tip, guys: if you’re wife is named Sappho, the isle of Lesbos is absolutely the last place you should go for a vacation. Try Alaska, instead.
We’re watching a bunch of public domain movies; the worst one recently was Sucker Money with a silly plot, bad acting (even for its time), and leaden direction.
There were some gems on the DVD, but this isn’t one of them.
The movie died for me the first time I saw a curving bullet. Mythbusters did this one a few months ago - perhaps the single most unnecessary myth bust yet done. Anyone with an eighth-grade understanding of science knows that, once the bullet leaves the gun, it travels in a straight line (affected only by gravity and air resistance). Shooting and having the bullet curve around objects, or, in one case turning a complete circle, killing a half dozen people along its path, including the shooter just killed any willing suspension of disbelief.
Date Night, which I saw about a year ago. It was going along fine as a comedy until all of a sudden it became an action-adventure picture with completely unrealistic gun fights, car chases, and the like.
I also saw Due Date in the theater a few months ago, and it just barely escaped being the worst.
It wasn’t recent (this is why I didn’t mention it in my previous post) but I decided, as a public service, I needed to add the movie “Extreme Movie” to this thread.
I rented this from Netflix sight unseen because it was by the guys who made “Not Another Teen Movie”, which is the only one of those modern Airplane wannabes that was any good.
Friends, let me tell you this movie is aggressively bad. I literally felt physically ill but yet something made me watch the ridiculousness until the very end.
Please, save yourself and stay away from this movie.
The most recent disappointment for me was I am Legend.
I love post- apocalyptic-type movies, but this was just so slow moving and boring, in my opinion. It got to the point where I was fast forwarding through all the parts where nobody is talking (which is most of the film) and just watching the talking parts.
And the ending was pretty anti-climatic/uneventful (again, IMO…YMMV).
The Objective, a sci-fi horror film by the writer/director of the Blair Witch Project. It was about aliens in the deserts of Afghanistan. Not very good.
Just saw Jack Black’s Gulliver’s Travels. It had literally no redeeming qualities. I can barely tolerate Jack Black as it is (except for some reason Nacho Libre), but his performance was baaaaaaad even by his standards. Do not watch this movie!!!
