What's this medical device called?

I saw them using it on ER the other day to check to see if a patient with a spinal injury had any sensation in their legs. Basically, it looks like a spurr on a stick. Anyone know it’s technical name?

rowel

Thanks, Philster.

A rowel is what’s hanging off the back side of a cowboy’s boot - so you’re close.

The actual device is a Wartenburg Pinwheel. Alternate spelling: Wartenburg

Just remember the Golden Rule of medical devices and procedures. Doctors tend to have big egos, so if they develop something, you can bet they’ll put their name all over it.

errr… the alternate is Wartenberg. :smack:

I wonder who is calling it by the long name! “Hand me the Wartenberg Pinwheel, nurse.”

Rowel was in a medical dictionary, but I don’t argue the real name.

It’s a fancy shmancy rowel! or…Artenberg Pinwheel.
