What's this song #378 ('morning,' '70s rock)

Very popular rock song, almost certainly from the 1970s. Female singer. Upbeat. Repeats ‘morning! mourning!’ (mourning?), possibly ‘Chico Fernandez’ or… something. Then a few jolty notes ‘ha ha ha!’ Probably obvious to everyone but me.

Are you SURE it’s a female singer?

It sounds like it COULD be “Mourning Sad Morning” by Free, with Paul (Bad Company) Rodgers on vocals.

That’s what I suspected, only the only clips I found on iTunes make it sound like a slow song…

“The Mexican” by Babe Ruth, an English progressive rock group of the early to mid '70s… I think that track is from 1973. Lead singer=Janita Haan.

The song was a favorite with the disco crowd & was redone several times by dance-oriented acts such as Jellybean.

Here’s The Mexican via youtube-

YESSSS! A million thank yous to everyone who played!

Holy crap! Why have I never heard of this band before now? I’m checking out the song “Wells Fargo” now. These guys were freakin’ awesome!

For some reason, The Mexican didn’t even make the US top 100- I assume it was released as a single…

Possibly not. It was a track on their first album, First Base, which was really only popular in Canada. “Wells Fargo” was, I believe, the single from that album; “The Mexican” had to be rediscovered by disco DJs & later became an anthem for breakdancers.
