Help me find this song!

OK. I don’t have a lot to go on, but let’s try anyway.

While on vacation in Mexico in Feb 2003, there was a popular song (American, I believe) that they played alot pool side. The part of the song I remember most is a sort of high pitched “Whup! Whup!” that came up every so often…all of the young staff around the pool would sing that part…

I would really like to find that song but can’t seem to come up with a name… any ideas?

“Let’s All Chant” by the Micheal Zager Band has a repeated hook that sounds like that, but its from the 70’s- perhaps someone sampled it?

There was a young rap duo (named “Criss Cross”, I think) that had a song in which they said “What-what” or something that like. Might’ve been around the same timeframe you’re talking about.

I’m not a rap expert, by any stretch, so take that for what it’s worth.

The hook sounds about right, but the song doesn’t. It was more of a dance club mix than a disco song, IIRC…

A group called Gusto remade this song recently. I can’t find the song on YouTube, but I remember it. (There is a clip in this mix here somewhere.) I bet that’s the song you mean. It appears on dance compilations. (Though I can’t name the one I remember having it atm.) Here is the DJ’s MySpace page.

Here is a mix by DJ Valium as well. I found the version I mean for sale on E-bay. If it had the feel of DJ Valium’s mix, but with a bit more disco to it, than it’s Gusto’s version.
