What's up with black people, dating, and marriage in adulthood?

No interjecting class into a discussion of race is allowed. Remember, there are no social classes in the United States - it is a purely meritocratic society. It’s just not possible that any of the social issues here can be explained through class analysis - that way lies the perils of Marxism and universal health care.

And why don’t they have sense enough to go to their summer homes during hurricane season?

More kick than Old English 800.

Yeah, me too.

He sounds just like the following people we have all encountered:
–The whiny, neurotic wedding-and-diet obsessed 30-something woman who complains that all the good men have already been taken.
–The whiny boring doormat of a guy who complains that women pass over “nice guys” like him for “jerks.”
–The whiny poorly-groomed and poorly dressed guy who just doesn’t take care of himself in any way who complains that he can’t get a hot chick.
–The whiny social climber who keeps a checklist of qualifications for a potential mate, who complains that the few men who do meet her absurdly high standards choose mates with similar qualifications instead of her.

VCO3’s coworker is just another one of these.

Damn! Beat me to it!

Another instance of someone being satirical in this thread when this exact thing has happened to me. In public schools, there is a LOT of discussion of the achievement gap, ie., why are black students performing worse on standardized tests than whites? In a meeting I once tried to bring up the fact that poor kids do badly on those tests regardless of race, and was flat-out called a Marxist.

We don’t talk about socioeconomic status and how to alleviate the effects of poverty on kids nearly as much as we talk about racism, probably because poor people don’t unite under one banner as easily, so it’s not as easy to talk about. “The poor will always be with us.” End of story, I guess. Oh yeah, and workers of of the world unite.

And racism has historically been one of the things preventing poor people uniting under one banner in the U.S., just as sectarianism has played that same function in some other Western societies.

Seriously. When I want to relax, I go to my beach house in Hawaii. What? Fine, your beach house in MEXICO, then, whatever.

Because they are too worried about their yacht’s down at the Flying Wasp Yacht Club.

What, the one on the Yucatan Peninsula?

Yachts don’t have down. Ducks have down. And even if they did, why would anyone keep it at a club?

I think this is a valid complaint. In many parts of the United States, there is a big shortage of straight single men with steady jobs. If you are a plain looking woman over the age of 30, it can be really hard to find a decent guy.

I think this is also a valid complaint, particularly among guys under the age of 25. After a certain age, if the “nice guy” has a decent job, he’ll probably get snapped up pretty fast.

I’ve never met anyone like that. In my experience, dressing sharp seems pretty low on girls’ priority list for guys. Personally, I’ve been dressing like a slob for years and haven’t had much problems getting “hot chicks”

I’ve never met anyone like that either, but I agree that a lot of people suffer from the “I’m ok so you better be perfect” syndrome.

No kidding. I was trying to let that one pass, but going to Mexico to escape hurricanes is like going to Texas to escape BBQ.
