What's up with Imus?

I understand he’s moving to Texas and he won’t be broadcast on FBN. Why is he moving? Will his program be picked up on another cable TV station? Any change in his radio broadcast? Why didn’t his relationship with FBN continue?

A knowledgeable source says Imus went to Ailes in January to say he would be spending the summer at his recently purchased ranch in Texas — which, unlike his previous ranch in New Mexico, has no remote television studio facilities.

Imus and his wife Deirdre plan to spend more time in Texas, in part because of Imus’ respiratory problems and in part because their son Wyatt has a growing rodeo career based there.

Because the TV show is based in New York, it was not possible to work out TV arrangements.

There has also been speculation that FBN, which was only two years old when it recruited Imus and since then has grown, now may have less need for the name recognition he brought.

The network now may want to offer more specifically business-oriented programming in Imus’ morning slot. Imus’s show has already been heavily infused with business news, as well as a constant on-screen “crawl” of business statistics and information.

Meanwhile, Imus gave no hint that the end of this TV simulcast signaled the end of his radio career.

When he said he was leaving Monday, he added, “Why? I do not know. There’s 10 times, maybe a hundred times more people that listen to the radio than watch television.”
