What's up with my thumb?

Lately, the joint in my right thumb (the one between the tip and the bottom half of the thumb, not the one connecting my thumb to my hand) has been acting weird. Sometime’s I’ll go to bend it and I’ll get a pop (similar or) the same as when I crack my knuckles. Nobody I know says they get this in their thumb. Should I be concerned?

The only thing I can think of that might have caused this is that I play the guitar, and do a lot of plucking with my thumb (as well as the rest of my fingers except my pinky,) and use my index and thumb to strum (rather than a pick.) I also went bowling for the first time in a while a few weeks ago.

Any ideas what caused this, or what I can do to stop it? I’m putting guitar on a weeks hiatus to see if that helps.

IANAD but my thumb has done this for years (at least all of my adult life), as well as my big toe. Dunno what it is, but it doesn’t seem to be a problem.

Big toe crackers of the world unite! I’ve had similar problems, but it has never been painful, so I’ve never worried about it.

My index fingers do this, the last joints in my both of my index fingers click if I move them the right way (no external help needed). I (and my friends) used to put this down to too much Quake playing, but I haven’t played for months and it still continues.
If a doctor says it’s cause for concern, let us know!

I’ve had thumb cracking occur before, however it was a short-lived ailment and I haven’t had it since. There really was little pain associated with it, other than the pain in the neck it caused having to hear it pop and feel weird as it did so.

I think every joint in my hand has been cracked at least once, though some more than others. I’m also pretty sure that moving your fingers a lot (typing, guitar, piano, maybe even rock climbing…) makes them more likely to crack. I wouldn’t worry.
