What's up with the Taxes?

Not in GQ because I don’t think there’s a factual answer to this question.

I have recently bought a computer. It’s nothing special, I didn’t get a monitor or printer (my current ones are fine). But, the computer will be fast enough to run Pong - unlike my current paperweight. It cost me a little over $500. The taxes were a little over $23. At 5%, it makes sense.

My fiance’s sister bought a computer from the same company, two days later. Her’s is to be the “Ultimate Gaming Computer”. She got every upgrade imaginable. She spent a little over $2300. The taxes were a bit over $9. :dubious:

I don’t get it. How can you spend almost 5x as much and spend about a third in taxes? I don’t think they have a different tax rate all the way over there - a mile from me.

On a side note - she ordered two days after me. Her computer is much more complex than mine. Her computer shipped two days before mine. I just don’t get it.

Anyway, I’m not really complaining about the company. They shipped a day earlier than they said they would and I got a nice discount. I am baffled by the taxes though.

So, what gives? Is this even mathmatically possible?
