What's Up With This DHL Delivery Issue?

OK I ordered something and it’s coming DHL

I got a message on my phone today saying

“The driver attempted to deliver your package today. Unfortunately because your apartment does not list the name of the person next to the apartment number, the driver was not able to complete delivery. Please call XXX to reschedule and verify”

So I did this, and that’s fine, but what’s the point?

I mean so the DHL driver got out of his car saw the address on the box which said

Markxxx
101 Main Street
Apt 101
Chicago, IL 60611

And he said “No name next to the flat numbers, so I’ll go away?”

And yes my building only lists apartment numbers

So I called DHL and they said, they just needed me to repeat the information on the address and they’d send it out. I told her my address and she said, “OK, we’ll send it out on Monday.”

What’s the point? The driver couldn’t have rung the bell and verified who I was with a drivers license or something?

I know drivers are very busy and minutes count as they have a schedule, but how could the 60 seconds he would take to verify the delivery, be better than having to make another trip out to see me?

There must be something I’m missing. Perhaps they figure if I didn’t have any ID, and the driver tried to walk away with the package, I’d hit him or something?

In my experience, DHL sucks and will come up with any excuse to avoid delivering your package. If you’re hoping for a logical explanation, well, you probably won’t get one.

I don’t know how UPS does it but the driver can pull up to my house and place a note on the door faster than I can run down the stairs and open it. They must have the notes filled out ahead of time.

Wait, you get a knock from UPS?

We had a package delivered from them and the driver just walked up the stairs and hung the note on the door before walking away. No knock, no nothing. I heard him coming up the stairs and returning, so I shot out the door and shouted him down. He was not happy at having to lug the package up the stairs. (It was a TV stand for a flat-screen, so the sucker was heavy.)

I’ve never understood this. It’s like they want to make more work for themselves. It’s not like they’re getting any more money from me, and yet they have to make more trips than they otherwise had to. Sure, I could see the driver wanting to do it, but you’d think corporate would crack down on that.

Well at 9am the DHL guy was ringing my bell. Which is odd 'cause the lady at the number I called yesterday specifically said the soonest DHL could deliver it was Monday Feb 15th but if I needed it earlier I could pick it up at their office in Frankliin Park (IL).

Well anyway I got it, but it does seem like more work.

There must be a reason for it, even if it’s an idiodic reason

No, I didn’t say I got a knock. I can hear the UPS trucks pull up.
