In Australia Star Wars Episode 7 is officially released on Monday but my flatmate picked it up at Coles today (Friday) for $28.
The intro is in some weird language. Firstly what language is it and why is it in another language?
“A long time ago in a galaxy far away”
“Episode VII”
The story
The menus and audio is in english. In the setup menu English is chosen as the language.
I want to try it out on my computer but my flatmate wants to watch it first.
Well I tried it out on my computer. It looks like my flatmate chose “Romanian” in the initial language chooser screen before it got to the main menu. If I choose English it works properly.
Is this common for Region 4 DVD’s? I thought Region 4 was Australia, PNG, the South Pacific, and Latin America, not areas that have huge numbers of Romanian speakers. Romania is in Region 2, and India is in region 5. Odd.
Both in the past and in the present, Region 1 DVD’s (USA and Canada) rarely have had anything other than English, French, and Spanish. If the film was originally in some other language (e.g. if you are watching Das Boot), it will probably have that original language, but your chance of scoring a copy of, say Starship Troopers in Hungarian or Breakfast at Tiffany’s in Thai at a random video store in North America is very low.
Well, considering the story takes place long ago, in a galaxy far, far away, my guess Earth was Pangea and that just fucks up all the DVD region bullshit.
