What's up with X-Men Evolution?

Add me to the list of men fascinated with Kurt Wagner/Nightcrawler. The animators have drawn him as quite a handsome devil. It doesn’t matter whether the image inducer is on or not. And the voice actor does a good job with that voice; the accent is really cool. If I were gay, I’d be making a play for the fuzzy elf’s attention.

I also stand by my earlier assertion that Kitty Pryde/Shadowcat is also hot as hell.

Yeah he’s my favorite character on the show right after beast.
(I dunno maybe I have a thing for blue fur from all those years of watching Seame Street.

Alan Cumming’s work in the recent movie didn’t hurt, either. You just want to cuddle him! And do naughtier things. But cuddle first and last thing.

Yeah, Kitty Pryde is yummy. I wish they’d give her more to do, she mostly seems to be background for Jean’s scenes.

Because I keep watching for a few episodes and then missing it, what happened to Mystique? Suddenly I tune in and there’s a new principal talking about the loss of Mrs. Darkholme? Also, is this the same Ed Kelly that was the bad guy in the first movie? And who’s Rogue’s new gothy friend, is she eventually going to be a mutant as well?

(Thanks for putting up with the incessant questioning. If I ask my X-Men fan friends, they launch into fifteen minutes of “Well, in the ORIGINAL cartoon this, and in the comic that, but in the other comic the other thing…”)

What’s the demographic of this cartoon, anyway?

Can’t really answer most of your questions without spoileers i’m afraid, but I’m pretty sure that Principal Kelly is a direct reference to Senator Kelly. Not sure why he replaced Mystique since I’ve been watching them out of order, I think she had a bust-up with Magneto. Keep watching, she’s still around.

SPOILERS for X-Men: Evolution…

Mystique went AWOL and was replaced by Principal Kelly. She shows back up in disguise as Rogue’s English friend, who’s the gothy chick CadburyAngel was referring to.

As for movie 'Crawler, was I the only one who noticed Storm was blatantly groping him while pretending to study his scar-tattoos? Now I’m imagining X2 fans tuning into Evo and being completely confused. Not only is Jean not dead, she and Kurt are waaay too young to be romantically involved with Wolverine and Storm, respectively.

.:Nichol:.

I admit to missing episodes.

But I thought the English girl was Psylocke

Since it’s already spoiled…nope. She’s definitely Mystique. I don’t believe Psylocke has made an appearance yet. Kelly hasn’t been developed too much yet, but he definitely gets some mutant-related trauma. It definitely turns him against mutants.

I suppose, in the interests of full disclosure, I should admit that I picked Kurt in the “If you were gay…” question I mentioned above. I suppose I should just go sit with the rest of the pervy elf-fanciers, right?

I’ve noticed that the animators pay a lot of attention to detail with him in Evo; in particular, notice his hands when he’s got the inducer turned on. You’ll notice that even though it looks like he’s got normal hands, the projected fingers are always paired, like he’s doing a permanent Vulcan salute. I thought that was a neat touch.

Actually, they seem to have a problem handling religion on the show - this was interesting to me.

The Christmas episode (have they done more than one?) featured the introduction of Angel. At first, there were reports of this beautiful winged man saving people, and it was widely rumored that he was a real angel. So, Christmas, angels, obviously we’re going to talk about religion, right? Well, no. The words “God” or “Jesus” or “Christian” or “nativity” were never mentioned. In fact, you never even heard the word “Christmas” - it was all “the holidays!” The climax of the episode took place in a church, but I don’t think the church was ever named or that you saw any crosses or anything. The only decorations throughout the episode were secular ones like Christmas trees. Scott and Rogue had a discussion about belief in angels (Scott believes, Rogue doesn’t) - without bringing up religion or belief in God whatsoever! Then, at the end, there’s a brief montage of the various mutants at home celebrating with their families, and we see Kitty lighting a menorah. But you certainly never hear the words “Jewish” or “Chanukkah” or anything of that nature.

I’m not usually someone who rants about the secularization of American public life or anything like that, but the way they skirted around it in this episode was downright bizarre. Anyway, with that episode as precedent, I definitely wouldn’t expect them to bring up Kurt’s Catholicism any time soon.

Ugh. Tabitha “Boom Boom” must die. How obnoxious. And I swear I’m not just saying that because she’s apparently the object of Kurt’s affection.

Interesting point on the religion, king of spain. I had no idea that religion was so taboo in cartoons.

A few episodes back Magneto unveiled his plan to create a safe place for mutants (Asteroid M) and created a machine to fully realize a mutant’s powers - Sabertooth became a superberzerker, Mageto could control metal on an interplanetary scale, etc. Asteroid M gets blown up. Magneto and Mystique escape, but apparently decide to lie low. This creates an interesting conflict between them - Mystique was pissed off that Magneto didn’t give her a free pass to Asteroid M. Anyway, they both move on to other plans, and Mystique lays low. She seems to want to keep an eye on Rogue (hence the goth-girl disguise) while awaiting Magneto’s next move, and as later events show, Mystique has her own plans for revenge on the red-armored Master Of Magnetism…

Theoretically 14-16 years olds, however the excellent plotlines and faithful adaptation caught the interest of a lot of older comic fans, too. Its no accident that Catroon Network plays it at 10:30 pm.

I’m not sure exactly why, but I think they want to avoid losing any ad revenue from nervous marketers.

Also, X-Men Evolution really explored the character of the “Kelly” character. In the comics, he started out being a one-dimensional anti-mutant semi-demogogue intellectual. He wasn’t really bad, just in the wrong. As time went on they explored him more and he became a pretty interesting person. He was not so much afraid of mutants but afraid they would ultimately destroy civilization unless kept strictly controlled - and several potential futures show he may be right.

In the new TV show, Kelly is a pretty cool guy, but mutants keep trying to kill him, blow up his school, wipe his mind, and so forth.

I think the final straw comes when a mutated Hank McCoy attacks him in his office.

Which actually brings me to a point. In his case, is anti-mutant sentiment prejudice or experience? I mean, its not like theres any mutant in the school who can claim not to have done some serious damage at one point or another. Even Forge made some killer death robots and buried explosives in the back…

Yes, Boom-Boom was annoying. Cut off her head and let her stupid hair-wings fly it away like a big drippy airplane.

Naw, she just was annoying. I liked that she moved in with the Brotherhood, though. They’re half the humor on the show anyway. Toad just kills me, he’s very likable in a disgusting fly-eating way, though I would like to see him get more effective in the inevitable fights they all have. As long as Lance doesn’t look like he’s having an orgasm every time he uses his powers.

As for Kelly, you have to admit that being afraid of teenagers who can do that amount of damage does make sense. The Brotherhood aside, Cyclops just has to have one bad day and whammo! Big reconstruction bill. Though I’ve noticed that most of the current X-Men have powers that they can hide pretty easily, but the next generation doesn’t, except for Jamie Madrox.

Huh? All of their powers are voluntary. They can’t hide using them very much, but they don’t have to use them at all in public. Now, Nightcrawler has unhidable-powers, except when he’s using that illusory device.

Theres a reason he got his powers at puberty…

Considering his powers are vibration-based perhaps he is…

Isn’t pretty much everyone waaay too young to be romantically involved with Wolverine? I mean, he’s old enough to be great-great-great-grandfather to any of the other X-Men.

Has Collossus showed up? He, Nightcrawler, and Archangel were always my favorites.

Any Apocalypse sightings?

Collossus is working for Magneto–Magneto apparently has some hold on him (maybe his sister?).

There’s an Apocalypse storyline toward the end of the aired episodes. Presumably it’ll pick up when they start showing new eps again.

Aesiron: Cartoon Network is showing the episodes from first half of season two currently; Colossus will show up at the very end of season two and occasionally in season three.

I thought so too. Unfortunately, it’s only when the animators are concentrating - I’m pretty sure I’ve seen episodes where he has 5 non-connected fingers.

And guess what – they’re showing them with the pre-main-title opening sequences chopped off to make room for more @*&#% commercials!

Actually, I think that the prologues have been moved to the other side of the opening credits, tracer. Yesterday’s episode, “Shadowdance,” starts with Kurt and Forge’s teleportation experiment just after the opening credits run through. In the original form, “Shadowdance” begins with Kurt and Forge’s teleportation experiment and then goes into the opening credits. I’ve noticed this same thing with a few other episodes; I’ll watch more closely to make certain.
