Ooh! A more mundane pointless thread than usual, even. I’ll play.
“Our” ducks are freeloading off the back porch for the 3d spring in a row (Boris and Natasha the mallards) so that’s nice. A great horned owl has been hanging out in the tree out there, too. Looked down at me with big yellow eyes when I went out with binoculars to verify. A mama possum (now named Virginia, as in Didelphus Virginiana) and young have moved in under the workdrawers out there, so I like to call the back porch my 'white trash menagerie."
Waiting impatiently for mail from Fulbright and another fellowship source-- it’s getting very late int he year and I’ve heard nothing and it feels like applying to colleges all over again.
Parrot has started saying “hi, mom!” which is spooky and annoying, since I don’t have kids and can’t imagine where he picked it up.
Teaching my very first class of my own this summer and feeling anxiety stricken about perpetuating myths about the Renaissance canon and trying to figure out how to pitch it differently but too scared to really go far outside the box in my very first class .
That’s about it. And you?
i got a birthday present 2 months late, and gave one 2 months late.
i’m about to bake kulich.
i have control of the cable for a few hours.

contemplating hair cut tomorrow.
I wanna live where capybara does, and have all that wildlife in my backyard! All we get is urban wildlife; skunks (which I actually like, from a distance), coons, squirrels, etc. I can go down to the river, to see ducks, of course, but it’s not the same.
I went back to work, today, after being out sick for two days. Other than that, not much happening.
You’re doing better than I am. I’ve just concluded my fifth week of not smoking during the work week, and going chimney on weekends. I met a friend for drinks tonight, at a cigar bar…, well, you can probably guess how that went on the smoking front. Monday, monday…sigh
Anyway, I hope you’re doing well. Good luck with it all.
I’m reminded now of a conversation at a restaurant table in Las Vegas last fall - you’ll be heartened to know that in a little less than two weeks I’ll be a spry young man of 50.
I played hooky today. Told my boss I was going to a Medicare seminar but didn’t. Needed a can of air and some white-out tape so I went to Office Depot but my debit card was declined. So found an ATM to withdraw and it wouldn’t let me, balance is $10.04? Where did the rest of my money go? Guess it’s time for a severe talk with the kid followed by some disciplinary action. Listening to the Beach Boys through my living room window as they are now onstage performing at the largest Arbor Days festival in the world wich just happens to take place in my back yard every year. Did you know today was Arbor Day?
Not quite yet. We’re going for a good visit in 17 days (Give or take a few hours. Not that I’m excited), another visit in August and the actual move in September. But it’s getting close enough that I break out in the occassional bounce.
And a very, very happy birthday to you. You don’t look a day over…HEY! PUT YOUR PANTS ON!
Keep trying with the quitting. I fell off the wagon twice, but climbed right back on with only a few bruises. Non-smoky smooches for Ringo.
Thank you to Davebear and thanks plus returned congrats to World Eater!
