Keep your insults.
Defensive much?
It’s OK, you’re in good company.
My dogs are trained not to bum-rush the door, and unless they are reliable with recall they are never allowed off their leash in an unfenced area.
This is like dog ownership 101.
I did have a foster (in a house with a front door that opened on the street) once who would sometimes dart out and RUN down the sidewalk in a straight line, across streets, with no regard for his safety. It sucked. I chased that dog down on foot many times, thankfully he had short legs. The most maddening thing was that he never tried it with me - it was not hard to train him to sit-stay 10 ft from the door every time I knew it was going to be opened. But my parents, not being dog people, weren’t willing or able to prevent him from getting out, and neither of them could run anyway. I kept that dog in my room when I wasn’t home (to only be taken out for leashed walks), because I was so afraid of what would happen if they let him out when I wasn’t there to catch him.
So yeah, I certainly agree that a dog who is living with people who can’t keep him from getting loose should be fixed. But there’s this thing called ‘training’ that’s quite effective, for both dogs and humans…
