Not a rhetorical question, or a chance to flame me…unfortunately
I’m sick.
White as a sheet, gritty eyes, achy joints, headache.
No GI symptoms, no fever, no cough.
I feel drained and pretty sorry for myself, so I’ve taken the day off college to sit and read the SDMB and watch tv.
Taking codeine and ibruprofen for the joint pain and headaches, and drinking Bovril for energy and because I can’t face eating.
Anyone got any ideas what I’ve got?
How long it will last?
What I can do to make myself feel better?
I know I’m a med student, but it’s a really bad idea to get out the textbooks and self-diagnose. I’ll be convinced I have TB, a brain tumour and Ankolysing Spondylosis by this evening if I do.*
I had this - or something very similar (though I eventually developed a fever)- last week, it kept me out of work on Friday.
I felt better, but not great on Saturday. On Sunday I was fine. However, my nose started running on Sunday, and hasn’t really stopped. (No “where’s it got to by now?” jokes please).
Disregard jjimm, he’s a hypocondriac and a sissy. 'Have you considered a long term, possibly chronic, medical condition? Yeah, thats helpful.
Sounds like a case of ‘Waking up in the Morning’ to me… urg, hate 'em hate 'em hate 'em…
How about sitting in the garden or park for a bit? It’s still kinda cold out there so wrap up warm, but if you got weather like London the sun is pretty warm, should sooth those aching joints. Might do you some good? whispers to micilin jjimm smells of poo, and his mumma dresses him funny! It’s true! I swear!
Not being a medic, but having been diagnosed with mononucleosis (sounds better than glandular fever) on Friday, I would say that it could be that. But then I do also have a cold, and have just had tonsilitis (or at least symptoms which fooled every doctor into thinking I had that - the blood test proved otherwise, although the antibiotics worked a treat. Weird!).
I’d second Ice Wolf - go see a Dr. It might just be a virus that’s going around. That’s what I thought mine was about a month ago.
Other than that, I prescribe chocolate and daytime TV. If you like those, that is…
Sounds like some viral thing - I have felt run down for months now, tired, sore eyes too… but nothing sufficiently bad to keep me off work (just enough to keep me miserable)… how’s your vitamin intake? fluids? you getting enough sleep or sunshine (ok I’m from Ireland too - I know about the sunshine deficiency but ya gotta go hunt it out!!)…
If it goes on much longer, I’d suggest the doc for some blood tests - in the meantime, vitamins and lots of Vit C esp, some exercise (like walking) and lots of rest.
Eh, I know me when I’m run down, and I’m pretty sure it’s more than that. Had a nasty “coming down with something” feeling for the last few days.
I’m good for food and fluids (a week with irishfella and last weekend at my parents’s have made me a little on the pudgy side actually) and I take multi vits anyhow.
Ho hum, just going to take it easy, keep taking the pills and see how it goes.
This happens to me a lot. So much in fact, that finally my mum took me to do the doctor. I did a blood test, but nothing was abnormal. The doctor said it was probably just Spring. :dubious:
Yeah I didn’t understand that…
I recommend getting some more sleep. That helps me a bit.
