What's wrong with my computer's clock?

I have a new computer, a Dell laptop. It’s great. I love it. My only quibble is that occasionally - by which I mean three times in the month and a half that I’ve had it - it’s changed its clock back one hour. The first time I thought maybe somehow I’d done it myself accidentally, but now it’s done it two more times, so I’m pretty sure it’s not me. It made me late to class once, and last night I stayed up an hour longer than I’d intended.

Any advice on how to fix this bug?

I guess the culprit is Internet Time Synchronization.

Maybe you haven’t selected your proper time zone and whenever your computer synchronizes with the time server it changes the time to what it thinks is correct. You can change the time zone by double (or right) clicking the clock on the bottom right corner.

If the problem persists, you can disable Internet Time Synchronization altogether.

Well, you were half right - I had already checked to make sure I have the correct time zone selected, and I do, but when I had it update the clock with the Internet Time Synchronization, the time went back an hour. WTF? It KNOWS I’m in Eastern Time, why does it keep trying to put itself in Central Time? Totally weird.

Anyway, I disabled the Internet Time Synchronization. Thanks for the advice!

Do you have “Automatically adjust clock for daylight saving changes” selected in the Time Zone tab? That could be messing you up if it’s unchecked and MI uses Daylight Saving.

If that’s the problem (and I’m betting it is) don’t forget, this year(?), we changed the dates for the start and stop of DST. Microsoft has released a patch to correct the clock, make sure you’ve got it installed!
