Anybody else just giving up on trying to reset their computer for DST?

I’m now just waiting for another two weeks, in hopes that the computer will automatically show the right time then.

At least maybe it will. My attempts to use Microsoft’s automatic update and patches and other “easy” fixes for the DST change haven’t resulted in my computer recognizing DST yet, and I fear that now it may never recognize DST ever again.

Silly me, I thought I could just reset the clock. But nooooooooooooooooooo, it just resets itself back.

I’m thinking of buying a new computer. It certainly seems easier (and more fun) than trying to debug this old dinosaur, as I continue to fail to get it to run efficiently. (Yes, yes, I’ve defragged, and run spybot and adaware and programs to analyze your system and see where it’s hanging up, but to no avail).

Just reset it to the timezone that is an hour ahead of you

Is it networked and getting the time from you’re server? It’s getting the time from somewhere, The Daylight Savings Time feature only changes the time the first time you start the computer after the time change, it doesn’t keep changing things. You have a time syncronization occuring with something that didn’t update.

Yeah, I’ll do that if it doesn’t reset in two weeks.

But this was more of a lament about not getting it to run correctly.

Not networked. It is networked to a brain-dead old Pentium II that never has the right time, and even that one’s incorrect time changes all the time. I’ve no idea who/what is telling this one the time, besides me.

After watching a coworker bluescreen his PC trying to get his cell phone patched for DST, I gave up trying to get my phone right. Does that count?

Sure. Join the club!

Go to Microsoft KB article 914387 , there you can create a simple registry patch which should solve your problem.

My Mac updated the clock automatically.

I’ve given up. Just waiting until April 1 . . . Of couse, we will have to through this again in the fall.

What is this DST you non-Arizonans speak of?

Been there, tried that. It just puts my machine into an endless loop where nothing is done.

Well, that just failed again, when I tried it for the 4th time.

Huh. My computer turned its clock back an hour the first time I reset it manually. Now it’s holding the correct time ok. (I’m not even trying the Microsoft methods, for a couple of fairly bone-headed reasons.)

Of course, I’ll have to change it AGAIN on April 1, when it automatically changes. :smack:

Are the patches you’ve tried the ones mentioned in this post?
If so, I have no better suggestions; if not, you might try them.

XP was supposed to have gotten an automatic fix, (Deb’s 'puter changed to the correct time with no involvement by anyone in our house). I’m still on 2000 and the patch I grabbed worked with no trouble. Beginning on the first page, there appear to be different instructions/downloads for versions older than 2000, although I did not follow up on them.

Yep.

What the heck OS are you guys using? Mine changed automatically. Besides even if it didn’t; all I would have to do is double click the time display in the lower right hand corner and change it.

It takes all of five seconds to do.

As noted above, Microsoft’s patches for XP don’t work, and the system resets itself back after being reset by me.

Thanks for your input.

Thank you QtM. I feel better about mine, now.

Now it’ll just be a mess in a couple weeks when I am looking at my clock and assuming the actual time is an hour later…but it won’t be.

Qadgop, I’m sorry if I came across as a smart-ass. That wasn’t my intent.

Qadgop, just a thought, but do you have your machine set to use a timeserver outside the USA?
