Hm. I’ve reset 4 computers successfully by just toggling the time ahead by an hour. I will learn soon whether I will then ned to toggle it back when the “DST” feature kicks in.
I have an iHome clock-radio that plays iPods; maddeningly, it sets the time itself and has not been accurate since I bought it. Not so hot for an alarm clock.
Qadgop, are you running WinXP with SP1, SP2 or neither? If you’re not running SP2, you might want to just do the SP2 patch, which includes the DST fix, as well as a bunch of other good stuff. I did get KB931836 wot work properly on my original SP1 installation, but some stuff I came across while looking up information about it led me to go ahead and install SP2, which I’d previously put off as pointless.
You might also be one of the unlucky ones. Check the links for some possible fixes.
I’m running XP Home Edition and my computer didn’t reset itself. Since I have a clock on the bookcase near me I said why bother messing with it at all? Nothing I use the beast for is time-sensitive in terms of DST. So I’ve chosen to deal with the problem by ignoring it. The computer will do what it has to do when it thinks it needs to do it.
I’m not saying that you have a pirated copy of Windows, but if one does, I could see the updates as being a problem on one with a non-genuine copy of Windows.
