What's wrong with my monitor?

Forgive me, but I’m not sure if I’m posting this in the right forum. Moderators, if this is improper for GQ, feel free to move it.

My computer monitor has been making some very strange noises for about a week now. It still has the usual high pitched hum, but it also has a lower pitched sound coming from it that I can only describe as a rumble. It’s probably at least twice as loud as the usual hum. Does anybody know if this is something I can ignore, or will I be looking at getting a new monitor in the near future?

Most likely scenario.

If your monitor is making a noise, it probably will need replacing sometime soon.

I leave my monitor on 24/7 and it’s very quite. In fact I can’t hardly hear any sound coming from it at all.

BTW, I don’t know of any monitors that are in good “health” that make noise.

I had a monitor once that was way too heavy to sit on top of the ‘base’(desktop model). As a consequence a rattle developed from the top of the base actually bending in the middle, and picking up vibrations from inside the case.

Try moving the monitor, taking it and plugging it in somewhere on it’s own. It’s worth a shot.

That runble…reminiscent of a tiny thunderstorm is the flyback transformer going bad. I get those fixed for about $75 over here.
