What's wrong with some people?

The Introduction to Sarcasm Class is down the hall in room 3-B.

I think Bill’s ready at least for Conversational Sarcasm.

Make sure you don’t go into room 3A by mistake, that one is Abuse.

It’s Being Hit On The Head lessons in here.

In world (and a thread) where some people have reveled in misery, it was fun reading how you managed to stay positive.
I’m glad that in the end something good came of all of this and that it is a strong positive for you, if only because I was able to get to read about it.

Are you sure you’re not published? You should be.

Thanks for that info; I wasn’t aware of it. :smack: Never had looked into the specifics during my childhood, since I seemed to be the only damn kid in town who couldn’t eat something. I guess I was the 1%.

I do know that I probably didn’t eat tree nuts as a very young child, and was breast-fed. Family is pretty healthy. Dad developed asthma post-Viet Nam. We blame my freaky allergies on his Agent Orange exposure (it’s a handy scapegoat).

Well that’s a point. I had my first, forbidden fluffernutter at a friend’s house during a sleep-over. Friend was one of six kids in a working-class family. The kids ate a LOT of peanut butter for snacks. (My allergist assumed a peanut allergy since I had a known tree nut allergy. Seems I don’t have a peanut allergy.)

To this day, I love Jif creamy.

I also had my first forbidden coke at her house. (The thinking was, cola is a nut, and you’re allergic to tree nuts).

My friend’s mom was a nurse, so I figured that if something happened, it was as good a place as anywhere else. :stuck_out_tongue:

Hey, I was 8!

That would be a good thing.

My dad developed food allergies after he did a tour on the DMZ in Korea. I’m lucky that I only ended up with pollen and dust allergies; two of my nephews are allergic to tree nuts and one of my sisters has celiac. The autoimmune disorder came from my mom’s side of the family, so I can’t blame that on evil chemicals.

This is neither allergy nor parking lot related, but … we live within 1/2 mile of an outdoor shooting range. We had no idea it was there when we bought the house but have learned to deal with it over the last decade. Yes, it’s annoying when they’re out there past 9PM in the summer. It’s a training facility for the local PD, so we deal with it.

A few years ago, our next-door neighbor tried to start a petition to either close it down or have the hours restricted because it was a nuisance. Yeah. It didn’t work. WTF was he thinking??

“The world should bend to my every whim.”

My mother-in-law went back to work the day after most of her children were born. Of course, she is a nurse who is truly devoted to her job.

So the rest were born while she was back on the job?

No sometimes, that means that she went back to work the second or third day after she gave birth. I do know women who have given birth and then returned to work within a few hours timespan though.

I’m a vegetarian. When invited to a party, I tell the host, offer to bring a three bean salad and chocolate lasagna, and make do.

I worked with someone who had multiple chemical sensitivities or some such bullshit. She would get headaches, stomachaches and dizzy spells whenever anyone brought damn near any food into the office. She once objected when I brought a cup of tea with Sweet 'n Low in. “Oh, the smell of that stuff makes me sick. I’m going to throw up from it.”

Clearly they did not have 27 hours of labor, during which they were awake, but unable to eat, followed by three hours of pushing, then a c-section under general anesthesia, a shot of morphine, and a nurse who woke them up every two hours to take vitals, and finally some vegetable broth and an Ensure after 34 hours. I was finally allowed to sleep uninterrupted (no more vitals checks) 6 hours post-surgery-- but wait! There’s a baby to nurse!

I think I finally got a full night’s sleep when he was about four.

This thread reminds me of some of the inappropriate, embarrassing things I’ve done in my younger years. Now I’m sad.

Can everyone stop posting in this thread, it is making me sad.

Oh, it’s not just allergy loons. I had lyme disease shortly after awareness of it started to climb. There was no surprise in that as I had been camping in three areas that suffer the problem. I even still had the bite mark when the symptoms showed up to confirm the whole thing.

At the time, I was working the local RenFest to earn some dosh. The word got out there and these actors that I did not know kept showing up where I was working to offer me condolences, sympathy, help group contacts, and more. They would emote all over me about it even though I kept saying “It’s okay, we caught it early.” and “No, I won’t be in a wheelchair from this.” Several of them seemed to be offended when I told them I was fine.

Reminds me of the people who try to get airports shut down because of the noise they generate, even though the airport was there before the person’s house was even built, let alone before the person moved there.

They have tried to get Clover Field, aka Santa Monica Airport closed for years, altho it was opened in 1924.

Also Reid-Hillview airport, which came in 1937.

Or their bastard cousin, who sits behind you and leans on the horn the second the light turns green and you haven’t gotten your foot off the brake pedal yet.
