What's wrong with the People Pages?

About half the pictures (random sampling) won’t display, including mine.

Yeah, I noticed it too when trying to match the sexual exploits of posters to pictures…

Damn.

Yeah I noticed too. It’s been like that more than a week or so I think.

I saw that too. I’m sure Shayna (that glorious, beautiful, and all knowing babe) will have it up and running soon . . .

Tripler
Me? My nose is brown?

I sent my picture to be posted and I do not see myself! And my eyes are open, too!

My head is throbbing over this. I’ve been trying to get an answer out of Yahoo for over a week already, with, of course, no luck at all. I had hoped I’d get some resolution so I could just fix it easily and not have to concern anyone here with the problem.

It’s my suspicion that the page was sabotaged or else Yahoo seriously screwed me over. I set up a secondary account to store some of the image files in because there wasn’t enough space on the primary site. Now, every single solitary file in that directory is gone. Just plain disa-fucking-peared. It looks as though someone hacked into my account and deleted all the files.

I can’t get an answer out of Yahoo as to whether they can restore the files (if it was their fuck up, somehow), so it appears as though anyone whose picture isn’t working is going to have to resubmit them.

HOWEVER, I have not had the time to go through the list and get the names of every single person whose picture has vanished and try to contact them to request a new one. And what a time-consuming pain in the ass. Frankly, I’m just not sure I even want to do it. That would mean looking through every single page, looking at the profile for each person, seeing if they list their email address and sending out a notice to those who do. And there are a LOT of them.

THEN, I don’t have the space to accomodate all those emails with attachments in my email, let alone time to retrieve them, edit the pictures, re-upload them and make sure the colors on the pages still match (in case a different picture is sent this time).

So, I guess for now, The People Pages is just a project on hold.

I’ll try to find time to add the new people who’ve emailed me in the last few weeks, though, and make a note on the index pages next to each person whose picture isn’t working so people know they’re not there for now. I just can’t say when it will be done.

Sorry, everybody.

I’ll keep you posted.

I’m pretty sure it has something to do with the new Geocities rule of not being able to link to individual images from outside the GC domain.

No, I’m afraid it doesn’t. I can link to image files in other Geocities accounts just fine. In fact, I had run out of room in the secondary account and now have a third one and they’re still linking fine.

The problem is that the files are GONE. There’s nothing to link TO.

I was just about to e-mail Shayna about this.

It looked to me like nothing in sdpeoplepages2 could be found.

:frowning:

Its to be expected with a service like geocities.

I don’t want to step on anyone’s toes here, but I think it would be a good idea for people to hold off sending Shayna replacement/new pics for the time being.

Note: This is just what I think. I’m not sure most people realize just how much work goes into building each page and I think the best way to show Shayna just how much we appreciate her is to not overload her right now. Um…not that I’m saying she’s a fragile flower of a woman who can’t take it or anything…

I guess Shayna already said the pages were on hold…just wanted to emphasize that now is not a good time to send replacement pics.

As I told Shayna in an email, I might still have all the pictures I helped her our with from when I was working on it. I did a back up to ZIP disk (I am guessing in Oct or Nov.) of the site. I am pretty sure (even after a system crash in December) I have a good deal of those pages ready to fire up.

Anyhow, just FYI, if I can find them I am more than happy to help her restore those files before I went and did my own thing.

So, keep your fingers crossed that I have those files on ZIP and can mimimize her work time to get the site back up on it’s feet.

Shayna, if you’d like, I could help. I have some free time on my hands for the next little while, and I could go through the pages (or a large section of them) and see which ones are there/if e-mails are available for those that aren’t. I could make a list and send it off to you.

You do a lot of work for the site, and I’d like to help if I can. Though, I guess you’ll see if techchick has those back-ups.
Just send me an e-mail if you would like some help (or post it here) and I can get started.

I seem to remember OpalCat offering to host the SD People pages at her site. Perhaps this would be an opportunity to move the site over to her servers.

Shayna and I are working to get everything back on track.

And I think, no I know, that we should send her massive amounts of chocolates, flowers and love for all the hard work she has done/will do on the People Pages.

Shayna, I for one love you and think you are tops. Smooch!

Where is this site?

I’m new. Please don’t hurt me.

Thanks be to ** Shayna **, she of determination and many braincells!
I lust to see my face on the people pages, but will be patient.

I’m nice, here it is.

Thank you, Anniz.

Is there any kind of update on the situation?

And although I cannot support bandwidth for a People Pages, when I get my FTP server set up you are welcome to store backups of the picture/html/zip/whatever files on it, so you can get to them from anywhere on the Net. As long as they are not more than 1 GB or so…
