I have two of those pocket torches that run on butane. Both of them have begun to have something strange go wrong with them. The flame used to be continuous and fine, but now the flame goes out and you have to keep clicking the igniter. After igniting, the flame only stays lit for about .5 to 2 seconds and then goes out. The gas still flows continuously. As far as I know the butane does not need a continuous ignition source to stay ignited so what could be going wrong? The torches have sufficient fuel left.
It’s time to clean the fuel orifice. A dirty orifice can result in an improper air fuel ratio, plus, the stream of butane may be shooting off to the side, or suffer from turbulence. Butane won’t burn nicely unless it’s all mixed up with the oxidizer(air), and flowing smoothly.
If there is a small drop of solder or other object in the area where the fuel and air mix it can also cause this problem.

Thanks for the suggestions, including but not limited to the band name idea. The nozzle is kind of inaccessible, so what’s the best way to clean it? The air holes where I would clean are very tiny, about the diameter of a thick hair. I might drip some alcohol down there and see if that helps.
