What's your current favourite CD?

Currently, Telecommunication Breakdown by Emergency Broadcast Network. I mentioned it in the top 10 albums thread and was reminded that I haven’t listened to it in a long time. It’s still brilliant.

Socialburn “Where You Are”

I have two of BNL’s albums–“Rock Spectacle” (live album) and “Stunt.” How does “Maroon” compare to their other albums? I hope to buy most of them one of these days. They’re excellent performers.

And how great is the song “Call And Answer” from “Stunt”?

My current favourite album? Kanye West’s “College Dropout,” I guess. I sure am showing my age, huh?

Most definitely the Postal Service’s Give Up .

I mean, it’s got everything I want. The amazing ‘literate’ vocals and lyrics of Benjamin Gibbard, uh… that girl from Rilo Kiley, and some of the most feel good (and not even in a sugary sweet) music. Kind of like listening to nintendo music with Death Cab for Cutie vocals.

So, I can’t recommend this album enough. I got it for my girlfriend, and sure enough, a little Postal Service cult sprung up.

Another BNL fan will have to help me out here. “Maroon” is the first BNL album I’ve heard (except for the single “One Week”), so I have nothing to compare it too.

There’s one particularly great song on it called “I Will Do Nothing” that’s about any guy whose trying to convince his gf he’ll be great some day. He’s brilliant, he’s thinking of turning pro, he’s got a great idea (“I’ll give you a hint / It involves the Internet”) Sound familiar.

Another song, “Conventioneer” sounds like a cheezy song from a '60s lounge act, played over a repetitive arpeggio (which is as close as I can come to describing it; the guitarist is plucking out a chord one string at a time). The guy’s singing a romantic ballad about meeting his co-worker at the convention and they go up to her room for a drink, a bit of travel Scrabble and end up rolling around on the bed in robes and hotel sandals. You can guess the rest.

As you can guess, I’m starting to like these guys.

The Killers - Hot Fuss

I can relive my love of the early 80’s sound without having to endure a radiostations playlist that includes Mr.Mister, Phil Collins, The Bangles and ugggh (shudder shudder) Stevie Nicks singing like a goat.

Definitely Aenima and Lateralus by Tool (Undertow is great too, but not close to these two), both A Perfect Circle CDs, and Damnation - Opeth (though I hate everything else Opeth ever came out with).

“Dress rehearsal”, Carolyn Dawn Johnson.
