You’re having a new kitchen put in to your great big house. You can have pretty much any appliances you want put in. Cost is no object. What appliance would you be most excited to have?
My fantasy appliance would be a restaurant-quality ice maker. I like my drinks very cold, and most regular refrigerator ice makers make that cloudy ice. I’d love an ice maker to make me loads and loads of clear beautiful ice!
I want that Sears refrigerator that is an Etagere-style – the doors open on top (with no divider between the sides) and the bottom is a big, deep drawer. The best fridge ever!
That etagere-style fridge at Sears looks nice, but that bottom drawer seems rather shaky. The door latching’s also kinda iffy. (I had my hands on one at Sears this past Saturday, and the left door popped open when the right door was closed.) Besides, this is about dreaming and fantasizing.
Go for broke and get a Sub-Zero installation with the modular drawer units that go under the counter. You can have one unit devoted to ice, a fridgelet conveniently located so the kids and guests can get drinks withut tracking through the kitchen and getting in your way. Add a wine cooler module wherever it fits and …oh what the heck… it’s a fantasy… two wine coolers!
I’ll leave it to your designer whether the fridge and cooler doors/drawers should be stainless steel, or framed in the same wood as your cabinets. I’m leaning to wood - the steel fronts show every little smudge and fingerprint!
Well, If she doesn’t count as an appliance, I guess I’d like a side-by-side oven (or 2 ovens). It’s very frustrating to come up with the perfect menu and then discover that two of the dishes need to cook at totally different temperatures.
I want a Smeg oven, not only is the name ‘to die for’ but they are extremely good quality as well. Oh and one of those magnetic induction hobs.
LilyoftheValley I find a combined Microwave / Oven the perfect sollution to thos two temperature problems, it takes no more space than a simple Microwave would. Next time you need a new microwave look into the idea.

Oh and welcome to the board, and congrats on such a romantic user name.
First of all, I want a kitchen that’s the size of my current apartment.
Now, for appliances. I want a freezer-on-the-bottom refrigerator with pull-out freezer, or, even better, separate freezer and refridge units, each at convenient height.
The only other thing I really want is a Magic Mill, and maybe the new Cuisinart coffee-maker-with-grinder-attached.
I’d like an electric burr coffee grinder. But more than that, I’d like an olive pitter: as automatic, electric and damn bloody magical as possible. It’s not even as if I eat olives that often, yet the pitting of olives is still the most annoying kitchen chore that I can think of.
Why stop at the floor? I’m picturing a kitchen that can seal off, all dishes inside, that will clean itself entirely…kinda like those public toilets in Europe, but less gross. And doesn’t cost 1 euro.
a separate freeze so i can buy meat and some other frozen foods in bulk when they’re on sale, or when a friend has extra venison
a home carbonation set up, My friend’s parents have one made from an old soda fcountain, which is very convenient, but a “batch mode” one is really not hard to do from scratch. I may well do this someday.
