What I thought when I read the title was: A dish washer that also puts the dishes away. I wouldn’t even mind hand washing them all if I had a putter away-er.
I too have visited that armoire style fridge at Sears and been underwhelmed. The thing I noticed was that that big drawer would be kind of a hassle because I"m sure whatever I wanted to get out would surely always be at the bottom.
Of actually available appliances I would say an indoor grill with a working exhaust system.
My true kitchen fantasy is to have a second outdoor kitchen with a huge grill, sink, big counter, etc. It doesn’t make sense where I live now but if I plan my retirement correctly. . .
A 48" wide, Viking Professional Series, self-cleaning, gas range with dual ovens, a four burner cook top with the griddle/simmerplate and grill. It is my fondest appliance desire but even if I hocked my kidney on ebay, it will never be mine sniff
I will always lust after a red AGA cooker…ahhhh. A Viking or Wolf brand stove wouldn’t hurt my feelings either. I have also wanted one of those Sub Zero professional refrigerators as well - they are great for making fried ice cream!
I want a well-designed kitchen that’s big enough for two people to work in, with a built-in bread rising area over the stove, where it’ll be nice and warm. Maybe with a heating element built in.
I also want a big, flat topped stove, double sinks, a KitchenAid self-cleaning mixer, and a sink garbage disposal thing. Lots of counter space, too.
Oh, you said what one thing- okay, probably a walk-in freezer with built-in ice cream maker. I’d love to be able to make pies and things in bulk and freeze them. I’m not paying for electricity, right?
OxyMoron - I’ve lusted after a Magic Mill for years!
Funny thing is, I love kitchen stuff. Good knives, good pans, good mixers, but I hardly ever cook. It must be genetic. 4 of my mother’s brothers trained as chefs, and all of her sisters are great cooks as well.
My perfect appliance will hear me call out my food order from anywhere in my apartment, prepare it, deliver it to wherever I specify, pick up the used dishes, clean them, order replacement supplies delivered from the supermarket, and bring me to orgasm.
Believe it or not, I would want a Cat Repellent Device of some kind. Like a force field or something. Because every time I go into the kitchen, no matter what for, I end up with three walking “starving” hairballs begging me with those sad little eyes to please feed them.
I also want the heavy duty espresso maker. Someday I’ll plunk down the cash for the Francis Francis! E.maker (in orange).
Other things I’d like:
Gas range
Wusthoff knives
A big, antique butcher-block island
A refrigerator with big, see-through produce drawers, and a tap for a pony keg
A big, deep enameled sink with the center garbage disposal, and the tap that doubles as a spray attatchment
As a technical editor for a cabinet manufacturer and former kitchen designer, I see kitchens on a daily basis that make me think" You bastards!" I’m talking 6-700 square feet, not one but TWO 48" Subzero’s, or three or four SZ 700 series ( the built in ones that go far ~2-5K apiece), or three $1500 dishwashers, or 15K in crown moulding I kd you not FIFTEEN THOUSAND DOLLARS worth of crown mouldings that are ten bloody feet in the air.
Lets not even start on the 7K island countertops, the $1000 dollar sinks, the $750 faucets, the tile that retails at $25/sq. ft.
I recently edited a job (all this is in a single family residence mind you) that consisted of $370,000 worth of cabinetry and did NOT include the kitchen! It didn’t even include the custom casework, just the run of the mill “custom” cabinetry for the 8 baths, three powder rooms, four walk in closets, two butlers pantries…feh, I’m tired of trying to remember all the rest…suffice it to say I hate these people:)
MikeG, my dad does those kinds of remodelling jobs, the $250,000 master bedroom suite?
My kitchen, in addition to the dream appliance(s), should be big enough to accomadate, a comfy loveseat near the fireplace. The kitchen should open into the den.
I want a six eye industrial grade range/oven and a second oven in the work island in the middle of the kitchen, the island should have room for at least four stools. I want two dishwashers, one of them a small one that slide out like a drawer. A Sub-Zero refrigerator/freezer, a double sink under a large window and a smaller sink in the work island.
I want a pantry for staples and open cabinets for dishes and food stuffs. I want a hanging pot rack.
The kitchen should also have french doors opening onto the patio/porch where a small green house shelters fresh herbs and tomatoes year round.
I want a kitchen to entertain in. Everytime we go to friends we wind up in the kitchen. By the way, I don’t really cook, Hubby does, I’m the prep cook and assistant.
