I hate to have to keep repeating myself but, who is VnV Nation? I feel uninformed.
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! I DIDN’T MEAN TO SUBMIT THAT TWICE!!!
You know why I rule? Because I know my favorite rock star. My favorite band is Unloco (they’re big in Austin) and I routinely email with Joey Duenas, their singer, and when I go to their shows my two friends that know him and I get to go backstage and chill with them.
Seriously, their album is worth a listen. I’m going to recommend MP3’ing on this one, because I think it will win converts who will buy the CD and come to the shows. Go to your MP3 trading program of choice and get “Face Down” and “Useless” and “Whimper”. God this band rules, they have such a raw, chilled out sound that’s heavy without being all… well I can’t really explain this… I don’t have real synesthesia(sp?) but most most heavy music is black, and this is reddish brown. Right…
Anyway, get those songs and see them on tour. They’re playing a free show in Austin before they go. It’s Saturday the 27th on 6th street in Austin. Joey told me that they go on around 5:00. It’s worth the trip just to hear the live version of “Whimper”.
The CD is called Healing, and the band, one more time is Unloco

Good fucking Lord!!! Just out of curiousity cook how old are you? You have to be pretty young or pretty old not to know Pearl Jam. They were/are a massive grunge band that came out in the early '90s along with Nirvana, etc. I’m not their biggest fan but my SO is. “Alive” and “Evenflow” are two amazing songs. I can’t believe you like Fuel and find Pearl Jam scary.
As for my personal favorite band…I think I’m gonna have to go with Sublime. Fused folk, reggae, punk, ska, hip-hop to come up with the most amazing, original sound of the '90s. Blows everything else away.
I’m not telling how old I am.
I’ll tell you when you pry the words form my cold dead lips.
It was rhetorical, I don’t really care how old you are. I was just making a point about how incredibly huge Pearl Jam was a few years ago. Hell, even my parents know who they are. That’s scary.
how old are you?
I am 3.464101615 x itself or 4x9-5+19+21+8-7divided by 6=??? you?
I told you so you have to tell me.
Obviously, mine won’t be a popular choice among the more avant-garde folks in here, but what the hell…
Kiss. The coolest band (both recorded and live) ever. (OK, feel free to mock me because they’re old, cliched, sell-outs, or whatever.)
I know I’m out of touch, as I haven’t even heard of many of the bands mentioned here. Oh well. Not to sound old and cranky, but many of them are surely bands that folks won’t remember at this time next year.
[Dana Carvey “Grumpy Old Man” character’s voice]: “Flibbelty floo!”
Ah, but we will.
(Ah, if they only made a smiley with Gene Simmons makeup, I’d be all over it.)
nineiron I think you are right about some of the bands. However, in my eternal defense of Sublime I’d like to point out that their lead singer died in 1997 of a heroin overdose (see, things aren’t that different). So they haven’t put anything new out. They had three albums studio albums (two live/outtake) starting in 1992, the last one in 1996. Still get regular radio airplay. It’s good stuff. Check it out.
Although, if you are easily offended by the vulgar lyrics of those kids these days and how when you were their age they didn’t need such vile words to sell records and things were better because of it…then you might want to skip
You are avoiding the topic you and I were dicussing.
Well, Sublime is one of the bands on here that I have heard of. I think they’re pretty good, the few songs I’ve heard from them, anyway. I had one of their CD’s at one time (uh, the one with a guy with “Sublime” tattooed on his back on the cover), but gave it away later on.
(Really, I’m not a cranky old man, but probably sounded like one when talking about such “old-timers” as Kiss.)
I like lots of music, but I love PJ Harvey!!
Damn, but that woman can make you hear everything she’s feeling.
And she’s hot, besides.
My sis likes her too. Are you, drillrod, nineiron and Neurotik, all boys?
This is counter-culture, from the underground.
Eternal revolution, this is how it sounds.
KMFDM, better than the best.
Megalomaniacal and harder than the rest.
Hey, you got to love a band who flat out says, “we are the best”.
It stands for “Keine Mitleid fur dem Mehrheit”(No Pity For The Majority)
