Count me in as a fan of the M&M’s “They do exist!” commercial, and the USPS “I Want a Hippopotamus” commercial.
This year, my favorite new ad so far is the one in which foxes are jumping on a trampoline-- the 2016 John Lewis Christmas ad.
Since the OP didn’t specify which holiday, I’ll also throw in the Cadbury tryouts commercial that’s been showing every Easter season for the past 22 years now.
Taking traditional Christmas songs and changing the words to sell $#!+ is the thing that turned me off Christmas all together. It has become a very annoying time of year for me. And it seems to start earlier each year then it did the year before.
I always enjoyed the Garmin commercial sung to the tune of Carol of the Bells (give-a give-a give-a Garmin) where the driver is shown driving about lost and keeps passing the same moose over and over. It came out about 2005 or 2006.
I’m really sick of car companies Christmas commercials. Who the hell actually buys someone a car as a surprise Christmas present? And don’t get me started on the “Santa drives Mercedes” ones…
As mentioned in the “hate-able commercials” thread, that’s how Colin Powell got the Corvette he always wanted. His children all chipped in and presented it to him, complete with a big red bow on the roof, in a parking garage. The episode of “Jay Leno’s Garage” in which he appeared with the car showed a picture of said car in the garage with the bow on the roof and family gathered around.
In the Christmas 2016 category, I haven’t seen this 90-second Macy’s ad outside of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade telecast… hope that wasn’t the last of it:
I love the Hershey’s Kisses bells, M&Ms “They DO exist!”, and the Corona commercials.
I absolutely despise the “I Want a Hippopotamus For Christmas” commercial… I hated that song with a passion before the commercial came out. You never seen me move so fast changing channels on the radio when that song would come on. Now I can’t get away from it!
Another vote for Nöelco - er, Norelco (“even our name says Merry Christmas”), Corona, and M&Ms (“they do exist!”).
Of course, it’s not really Christmas season in the Bay Area until the San Francisco Ballet Nutcracker commercials start airing. I saw a poster for a Christmastime performance of The Nutcracker in Chicago…in late June.
