Concur! Best mainstream grocery store source of dark chocolate with whole hazelnuts, which is my very favorite kind of chocolate add-in.
Never heard of 'em, but I want very badly to try them. Don’t find myself in the Kentucky/Ohio area all that often, though. Are there dark, milk, and white versions, or just one and it’s swirled, or … ? Also, what does opera creme mean? Or is that the world’s most awesome autocorrect fail?
I like both Mounds and Almond Joy, but they each taste like they’re missing something. If only Peter Paul made a coconut candy with almonds *and *dark chocolate. I think they did try out a dark chocolate Almond Joy once, but they were gone before I got the memo.
Funny, I was -just- talking about these with a co-worker. I have a strong attachment to these things from childhood when they seemed to be more readily available. I don’t even like the taste so much, but the smell gives me the chills (in a good way.) I used to keep a package in the junk drawer just to give it a sniff every once in a while!
Incidentally, you can find them at Cost Plus World Market if you ever want to give them a try.
Content: Do foreign candies count? I absolutely adore the combo of chocolate + tangy liquid (!) filling in Erfrischungsstaebchen, but these are not available in the US except through import stores.
Cost Plus World Market is a great place to check for imported or hard to find candy. They carry White Rabbit candy from China and Prince Polo from Poland. Another favorite is the white chocolate with coconut and corn flake version of Choceur from Aldi.
If anyone would like to try these they are usually carried in World Market stores, which is where I found them for the first time. When I was in there last week they had the mints and gum, and a couple of other flavors.
They aren’t for everyone! I enjoyed the first few before I had to put them down, but then I started getting the craving for them.
If you buy a pack and decide you don’t like them, stick the roll in a drawer to scent your clothes. They are quite strong.
