I saw this post on another message board i go on, so i thought id bring it to you fine folk
Today mine is - Anathema: A Fine Day to Exit
“The Last Saskatchewan Pirate” Arrogant Worms. I think it’s because of the National Pirate Day thread. Hum hum…
845-6965 by Lesterjett, a local Santa Cruz band. Good stuff.
Midnight Oil “Beds are Burning”
Either Call Me Call me; CALL ME CALL ME
Performed by: Steve Conte
Lyrics by: Tim Jensen;
or
Flying Teapot Flying Teapot
Performed by: Emily Bindiger
Lyrics by: Tomoko Tane
Both from Cowboy Bebop, more or less, Flying Teapot is not even in the show, or if it is I certainly do not remember it at all.
I think that a ton of songs in Anime only get realized because they are even loosely associated with Yoko Kanno (I found both of those songs while searching for her music, and indeed the IDv1 tag credits her with the song though I see no indication from the page that I linked to that she was actually involved with it in any way. ).
Not to say that Yoko Kanno does not rock. Because She does. She is God after all ya know.
If those are not your style, then The Pendragon’s Sword is a darn good song, no instrumentals, pure human voice, doesn’t matter, definitely takes up all of the stage.
(or room or whatever you are going to call it. ‘sound stage’ I guess. . . )
“Panis et Circenses” by Os Mutantes. Just a fun sounding song to distract myself during bad moments. I’ve got to buy more of their stuff.
I wish I spoke Portugese to find out what the lyrics to their songs mean.
Today:
Sweet Jane, '73 version
by Lou Reed
Pagan Poetry(and the remixs)–Bjork
What it feels like for a girl(Paul Oakenfield Remix)–Madonna
All time favourite: Mad man moon (Genesis).
Recent songs: Cup of coffee (Garbage)
“Eyes Like Yours” by Shakira. That song has some kind of driving beat!
At the moment, it’s The Whitlams (grrreat Aussie band!) “Charlie No 1”
“Weapon Of Choice” by Fatboy Slim. I finally saw the video for it last week and it’s been stuck in my head ever since. It’s cool.
I believe it’s titled “Cigarettes and Red Vines,” by Aimee Mann. It’s been stuck in my head all week, and I’m glad it’s in there.
I’ve also been blown away by this live rendition of “Young Ned of the Hill,” on Streams of Whiskey, a concert CD by the Pogues. The recording is absolutely awful: lots of feedback, the vocals are way too quiet, Shane MacGowan is completely faced, but somehow the energy of the live show translates perfectly. I have to activly keep myself from cheering when I listen to it.
Yesterday: “A Brand New Day” (“The Wiz” soundtrack)
Today: “When You’re Falling” (Afrocelt)
Tomorrow: Who knows?
Mostest Favorite song of all-time (probably):
Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, 4th movement (Ode to Joy)
Today’s favorite:
" Gouge Away" by the Pixies.
I pulled the cd out last week to listen to while cleaning the basement and fell in love with the song again.
“Hey, Cisco!” by Deep Purple
“Wish You Were Here” Pink Floyd
“Wise Up” by Aimee Mann.
“It’s not going to stop… so just… give up.”
I should probably be listening to something to cheer myself up, instead - but this is the firm favourite at this point in time.
