What's YOUR favorite song?

I need some ideas for new music to buy (or download)…what are your favorite songs/bands? I like pretty much everything 'cept country, rap and punk rock, but post whatever you want.

I’m not a good judge because the music I like isn’t very popular, but here are some favorites:

VNV Nation - Standing
VNV Nation - Beloved
Mesh - I Can’t Imagine How It Hurts
Mesh - Leave You Nothing
Depeche Mode - Enjoy the Silence (<-- one of the greatest songs of all time!)
Depeche Mode - Black Celebration
Anything Box - Radio Static
Anything Box - Blue Little Rose
Anything Box - An Ending

Also, if you want to download, Anything Box has a free downloadable album on their web site called Binaraural Repeats, which is a compilation of their best songs of the past ten years. I highly recommend you give it a shot.

There is some pretty good indie stuff out there you can try too.

Right now I’m listening to:

  1. Rube Waddle - Hobo Train
  2. Idiot Flesh - Fancy
  3. Sleepytime Gorilla Museum - self titled

Anything by Sigur Ross!!! They’re just the best!

And, though I’m young, I’m still very old school. Go with the Beatles (definately Abbey Road), and the Doors.

Never-ending Story Theme–New Found Glory
Glory of Love–New Found Glory
The Beast–Concrete Blonde
Welcome to the Jungle–Guns N Roses
My Life–Bon Jovi
Jump Jive N Wail–Brian Setzer Orchestra
Tribute–Yanni(the whole album is good,actually)
Weekend in New England–Barry Manilow

Can you tell I have eclectic tastes in music?

Swan Lake! Just got the CD and though I hate ballet (like contortion acts the dancers make me squeamish) the music’s wonderful.

Anything by Sparklehorse, esp. Eyepennies and Cruel Sun

Other stuff I’ve been enjoying lately:

OK Go - Get Over it, What to Do, You’re so Damn’ Hot

Ben Kweller Sha Sha, Commerce, TX

Screaming Trees Trouble Times, All I Know

Pete Yorn Musicforthemorningafter

Let me second Sigur Ros.

My favorite band is Stereolab, but I’d have to say my favorite song of all time is either 96 Tears by ? and the Mysterions or St. James Infirmary as performed by Cab Calloway, depending on my mood…

interface2x, what about VNV’s Praise the Fallen?

After reading the other posts I feel like A teeny bopper.
*Nsync
O-Town
The Ramones
Blink 182
Matt Caplan
Soundtrack to Rent

Any song from these bands/albums are good

interface2x, what about VNV’s Praise the Fallen?

I’m a fan of Blondie, the Beatles, & Nine Inch Nails (Head Like a Hole is a favorite), as well as Ani DiFranco & Bob Marley. I’m getting into bluegrass - I like the songs I’ve heard off the O Brother, Where Art Thou? soundtrack. Brushfire Fairytales, a CD by Jack Johnson, is brilliant.

…And I know you said no rap, but I LOVE “Rapper’s Delight”.

My favorite song is “Beyond the Sea” by Bobby Darin. Runner-up is “Sweet Thing” by Van Morrison.

I realize that’s not the point of this thread, but I was all set to say that from reading the title, so there it is.

“Daylight” by Aesop Rock
“Me and Jesus the Pimp…” by The Coup
