Whats your favorite sub?

I love Potbelly, it’s easily my favorite sub chain, but Quizno’s definitely puts more meat on their sandwiches. Of course, Potbelly is about half the price, so it all balances. I always get either the wreck or the italian with the hot peppers, oil, italian seasoning, lettuce, onions & tomatoes. The hot peppers are the key.

The Quizno’s I’ve been to seriously skimp on the meat and are way overpriced. Potbelly has much better subs, and they’re cheaper to boot.

Subways absolutely sucks. The only sub chain worse is Mr. Submarine. I’ve given Mr. Subs a chance time and time again, and ever single time I eat there I’m stuck with inedible chewy bread that actually makes my jaw hurt as I eat it from all the munching.

For non-toasted subs, my favorite chain is Jimmy John’s. I usually get their Vito (salami, capicola, and provolone) with hot peppers and all the trimmin’s (lettuce, tomato, oil & vinegar) or the Turkey Tom (turkey, provolne, the trimmins and alfalfa sprouts.)

That said, the best sub I’ve had in Chicago is from a deli called Bari’s on 1120 W. Grand. Their Italian or Prosciutto & Fresh Mozarella sandwich with homemade giardiniera is among the best sandwiches in the world.

I like the Subway BMT on Italian, with provolone, lettuce, onions, tomatoes, once across with the oil and vinegar, salt & pepper. But only in an emergency.

We’ve discovered Firehouse Subs, and their New York Steamer is to die for. I could live on those. They make other subs which might be as great, but I haven’t got around to ordering one yet - the NYS is that good.

It’s better than their…

Hee hee hee

Better than their…

BWAH HA HA

Cleveland Steamer!

HAW HAW HAW!

I’ll bet that was funny.

I"m the exact opposite. For the most part I only go to Subway now. Anytime I get a sandwhich I see them pulling bread out of a bag I just wince. The fresh bread and veggies ranks way above pretty much anything any other shop can do.

I have a couple of favorites, either the meatball with provolone, onion, green peppers, black pepper and parmegan cheese

or the club with pepperjack cheese (american if they don’t have pepperjack) all veggies except olives, banana peppers and jalapenos, (extra pickles), yellow mustard, sweet onion sauce and black pepper.

Roast Beef with Swiss and Gravy on the side to dip it in!

I just tried this one and it was good.

A local sandwich shop, the Yello Sub, makes my favorite – the Green Turkey. It’s got turkey, bacon, and cheese, plus sprouts, salsa and guacamole. Yum.

I suppose if I had to pick one from Subway, it would be the Chicken Bacon Ranch (toasted).

Have any of you had the new pastrami sandwich from Subway? It’s really good. But then, I’m a huge pastrami fan - it’s basically the greatest deli meat ever.

Since when does Subway carry pastrami?! That will definitely make my favorite hoagie from them - baby spinach, provolone, pepperoni, salami, feta if they have it, and vinegar on white - a million times better.

I always have to order my sandwiches in a loud, clear voice, and then I have to watch them make it: no one quite believes that I don’t want anything on my subs except maybe some mayo. No, no lettuce. And you – put down that tomato slice!

Anyway, from Subway I like:[ul][li]steak & cheese, plain (just steak and cheese), on white bread[/li][li]meatball & cheese, plain (just meatballs and cheese), on white bread[/li][li]turkey & mayo on pretty much any kind of bread[/ul][/li]I’ve never been to Quiznos, because I don’t care for toasted bread. I’ve been to a Potbelly, but only because I didn’t know that they toast their bread. Don’t get me wrong, it was still a good sandwich (turkey and mayo), I just prefer untoasted bread.

My current favorite, though, is from the Safeway grocery store near my house: turkey & mayo on 6" of French bread, with some Amish macaroni salad on the side. Sometimes, I throw caution to the wind and get smoked turkey.

Can’t take Quizno’s because they give me dia…um, they make me not feel real well.

Can’t take Subway because they’re bread is flavorless, textureless, and has the mouth feel of bread that’s 10 days old. Besides, their meat is so thin you can see through it. Which wouldn’t be as much of a problem if they put more than one slice on your sandwich.

However, I have just discovered Roly-Poly wraps, and they’re pretty good!

But, nothing beats a Schlotzky’s. Okay, they don’t sell subs, but still.

I dunno if its all of them, I only go to the one by my work for lunch sometimes. But they’ve had it for about two months now. The hot pastrami sub. And it’s a lot of pastrami, too.

Subway–meatball and cheese (we don’t need no stinkin’ veggies) or turkey and ham with mustard, mayo, cheese, pickles, and spinach, both on wheat.

Blimpie–ultimate club with honey mustard, lettuce, and pickles. Grilled so that it looks as if it was run over.

Roly Poly Sandwiches–either Porky’s Nightmare (roast pork, baked ham, bacon, cheddar, swiss, lettuce, honey mustard dressing) or Chicken Cordon Bleu (chicken breast, baked ham, swiss, mushrooms, basil mayo, and they grill it). Roly Poly is the best, unless there’s a muffaletta in the vicinity.

Here goes (in the order I prefer): footlong Subway club on wheat, pepperjack cheese, cucumbers, pickles, tomatoes, banana peppers, jalopenos, and big handfulls* of onions, green peppers, black olives, topped with spicy mustard.

Whenever somebody new makes it, they say same thing, “That’s a heavy sandwich.”

This one girl has got it down to a science, though, closing it and cutting it without spilling it, and rolling it up real tight. If I was 20 years younger I would ask her to marry me. I’m only half kidding, she’s pretty hot

In a years time, I probably ate 275 of those heavy sumbitches.
*about 3x the normal amount

Hm mrAru says for reliability and strength, a 637 class, if it is more a case of more performence and greater silence, an improved 688, and he recommends the USS San Juan
Oh, you weren’t talking about submarines…oops <blush>

We both like subway’s italan BMT classic, he likes adding the peppers and I dont like peppers

Ooh…great thread!

I opt out of Quiznos if I can. Too expensive AND I usually leave unsatisfied.

Subway: I flip-flop between 2. Breads are usually Italian or wheat.
Meatball-provelone-ALL veggies (hold the pickles and those gross, woody day-glo banana peppers)-vinegar-dry spices-extra extra giardiniera which seems to be a Chicago-only offering.

Roast chicken breast…the whole ones, not the cut up sweet teriaki junkie ones…all veggies-spicy mustard-mayo-dry spices-vinegar-extra extra giardiniera.

Pie in the sky choice? Rammy’s Sub Contractors I think they have 3 or 4 Northwest Chicagoland locations. Reuben w. all veg and giard. Yummbo!

Subway: footlong BMT on wheat with double provolone, lots (maybe 5 or 6 stripes) of mayo, one stripe of mustard, lots of lettuce and lots of black olives. (Interesting side note: a Subway employee once told me that the normal amount of olives they put on sandwiches is 3 per six inches of bread. I probably get six times that amount. :))

Quizno’s: can’t stand the scent of their stores, so I have never bought more than a soda from them.

Schlotzky’s: I really liked them when I was a teenager, but as an adult I’ve fallen out of love.

Papa Kelsey’s: (my only heated sandwich) turkey on white bread with mayo and mozarella ONLY! (As in, if you put tomatoes on it, you’re going to be eating my bill ‘cause I ain’t havin’ it, y’hear?)

I don’t think we have any other chain sandwich shops in my town.

I know this will draw funny looks, but my favorite sub is dry turkey, lettuce, tomato, onion.

I started eating them when I was dieting. Turkey’s about as low-fat as it gets for meat. I eschewed mayonaisse, of course, and the ying of mustard without the yang of mayo . . . it is just not right. No cheese, since it’s usually evil, cheap, largely tasteless processed American—what a pointless sat-fat-bomb. Lettuce, tomato and onion are necessary, of course, for taste and texture, valuable moisture, and some token vitamins. (Strofoamesque out-of-season tomatoes and iceberg lettuce don’t have much to offer, of course, but, whatcha gonna do?) Green pepper and cucumbers, too, if they’re avaiable. Whole wheat bread is prefereable, nutritionally as well as culinarily.

When I went/fell off the diet, I had a few different subs, with various meats and sauces and cheese, but, strangely, I returned to the bossom of the dry turkey sandwich. I dunno, I have a strange fondness for things that just food. Nutrient delivery systems. No frills, nothing extra, just good, hearty, basic tastes. Rice and beans. Apples and oranges. Dry turkey sammiches.
