I love a good toasted sub and thought they sounded great in the ads, so fortune smiled and now we have two of these sub restaurants in our area. I have to admit the sit down presentation is nice in terms of the restaurants being clean and well designed, but the subs themselves are not that impressive, even if they are toasted. The subs are fairly expensive as subs go, and many of them get doused in various salty, sugary sauces taking them from being merely mediocre to vaguely repellent.
Agreed, really. Back when I was growing up in Central PA, just about every sub shop offered toasted subs: “cosmos,” as they were called. Nearly all of them were better than Quizno’s–no sugary sauces, no pepper bar (yeah, the pepper bar is cute, but if your subs are of good quality–do you need it?), and all at half the price or less.
I have been to Quiznos a number of times, and I can say with all honesty that I have never once been happy with their food. Its either to spicy (the sausage sub) to sugary (meatball) or the clones behind the counter screw up my order.
Add to that the stupidity of their television commercials, and I am a Subway guy forever (or at least until someone opens up a better sandwich shoppe.
I like Quiznos - the subs are pretty good, for a chain resteraunt, I think they are better than Subway, at least good enough to be worth the extra money. Though I do have to tell the people behind the counter not to put so much sauce and junk on the sub.
I really wanted to like Quiznos. Their commercials crack me up, especially the “raised by wolves” one. But I just don’t. Every sub I’ve had there is just nasty tasting.
I was really floored by the price. I paid $6 for a piece of cheesy bread with meat on it, and I didn’t even get chips or a drink because the sandwich itself was such an outrageous splurge! I could get $6 doublecheeseburgers at BK for that and eat all week, sheesh. (About the same quality of food too.)
Yeah, they screwed up my order too. They gave it to the guy in front of me who said he wanted lettuce on it, which I didn’t…then he walked around with it for a while and returned it, then they just shoved it at me. Yuk!
I really wanted to like them too. I gave them a try and was not impressed. Too sloppy, way too expensive. Twenty bucks for the wife and me. For that kind of money, we could have gone and ate “real” food. I don’t eat at Subway, either. They charge way too much for a piece of bread with a handfull of lettuce on it also. The very few pieces of meat they give you can been seen through if you hold them up to the light.
And the pepper bar was kind of a joke. I’ve seen a wider selection at gas stations.
The clubhouse at the golf course near where I work has killer food with very reasonable prices (maybe my lunch is being subsidized by green fees? ). I can get a New York steak sandwich smothered in sauteed mushrooms with a salad, onion rings or frys and a drink for about $9.00. I go when its raining or snowing. The joint is empty!
I’ve eaten at Quiznos maybe 3 or 4 times, so I only go there very occasionally. The subs are okay, but I don’t feel you get yuor money’s worth there. A full meal costs over seven dollars. Overall I prefer Subway over Quiznos, but some of the local sandwich shops are even better.
Me too. I suppose Quiznos is better than Subway, but they’re both crap for the most part, and yes, Quiznos is way expensive.
Oddly enough, the best sandwiches in the neighborhood are at Cala (Ralphs/Kroger) where I used to work. God I hate spending money at that hellhole but our old sandwiches rock.
I like the Classic Italian, when they aren’t out of ingredients and don’t put the wrong sauce on it, but I think Blimpie makes a lot better sandwich. Unfortunately, Quiznos and Subway have managed to drive all the Blimpies in my area out of business.
The other Quiznos sandwiches mostly suck. And everything is overpriced.
Quiznos isn’t great food, but I like their subs better than any I’ve had from Subway, Blimpie’s or Togo’s. (Although Togo’s is close – the toasting does give Quiznos the edge.) I’ll take most fast food subs over most fast food burgers, most days, so Quiznos ranks pretty high on the fast food chain for me.
The sub shop I miss is Cousin’s, though, which was popular in Milwaukee during my tweens and teens. They’re not around in the northwest, although I sometimes wonder if a franchise would be any good anyway. I haven’t had a Cousin’s sub for at least 10 years, and I wonder if a new one could possibly match my fond memories.
If I get a sub, it’s either a meatball sub or a cheesesteak. Given that I’m quite a distance from Pat’s or Gino’s in Philadelphia, I end up with the chain restaurants.
For meatballs, it’s Subway - Cousin’s - Quiznos, in that order.
Cheesesteaks are Quiznos - Quiznos - Quiznos, no contest. Cousin’s puts LETTUCE on it. What the sweet gibbering hell is going on there? What kind of cheesesteak is that? No! No! Just … no!
Since it’s currently my TV offseason, I fortunately haven’t seen any of the bizarre pepper bar commercials, so I can pretend that Quiznos only serves cheesesteaks and does a good job of it.
